the UVC is always interesting lol my top 5 teams going into the season 1. New Paltz 2. Springfield 3. Nazareth 4. Baruch 5. Stevens I definitely think NP is going to be good, real good. However, I think they need to earn that #1 ranking. IMO, Springfield is #1 until they are knocked off the throne. I realize they lose Pellatier and Falcone but they have so much depth and talent. The replacements may not be as good, but they probably would be starters on any other team. I still think Naz is #2. The two FR pins hitters carried much of the load. Yes, they lose a great setter, but they have hitters that will make the setter look good. The 3-6 spot, Juniata, UCSC, New Paltz & Baruch. After watching Stevens play last year in the NCAAs, don't know where to put them. It always seems to be their year. Two years ago, the late season loss to Hunter screwed them (they sill fell like they were screwed for not getting that bid), to last season utterly poor performance in the first round of the NCAAs. So, I say they are in the next grouping, 7-10 with Carthage, Kean & Rivier.

all valid points and i can understand your logic behind all of them
I listed New Paltz at 1 more as a pre-emptive ranking, as i feel that they will be a number 1 ranked team at some point this upcoming season. returning everyone from last years team and getting a tier 1 middle from massapequa make them better then last year.
I can agree with you on Springfield starting out at number 1 as well and also being in that conversation to hold that ranking over the season. Vega, Perez, and O'Leary are a solid core coming off two championship runs, they will be formidable and dominant, easily top 5 dominant.
I respect the Naz program, but a lot of their success next year is gonna depend on how successfull the replacement for Spicer will be. EJ was a an all-american and easily one of the most dominant setters in d3 for the last four years. On top of that they lose Kraft which i think is a bigger blow then most might realize. they still have lawatch and mahan is a promising freshmen to fill that role, i hope they move zyburt to OH and have him play opposite of Levermore... Naz and New Paltz are both going to be very young/experienced teams to watch out for the next couple years... possibly forming a rivalry that approaches that of Juniata/Springfield judging from how hard each team plays against each other.
I put stevens in my top five out of respect for their success over the last couple years, but i will acknowledge your points about their postseason play. They still are talented enough to run rough shod over the 7-15 teams... and i think are probably a tad better then UCSC now that lacavera is gone.

The thing with Stevens tech is...they have some of the most talented d3 players in the country on their team but they do not get better year after year they continue not to grow as the season goes on...beginning of the year they will have a win that has everyone saying this is the year Stevens does something of merrit and later in the year they will lose to someone they are better than on paper and lose or not make it into the NCAAs...not trying to start a huge argument I really do believe with better coaching Stevens could've won the national championship this year

i don't think i can agree to calling them jokes lol, outside of springfield those two programs used to be perennial national title contenders in regards to their bid last year... for juniata beating carthage and UCSC in the CVC is no easy feat at all. As for the upset to rivier, it's play offs, and anything can happen in the play offs.
UCSC was a still a good team last year. I'll be frank i personally didn't think their resume was good enough to get them into the tournament over New Paltz or Carthage. Beating NYU twice and Stevenson twice was about the highlight of their season's level of difficulty... but i will give respect where it's deserved because the UCSC team last year was easily capably of beating any team outside of Springfield in a best of 5 series. They def had the ability to make some noise in the tournament, but like i said before anything can happen in the play offs. To sum up my point i wouldnt just call the programs jokes lol

Yea its hard to call two top programs jokes because they didn't show up to the NCAAs, I think a neutral site would have served Santa Cruz better had the tourney been At MIT or Stevens like they had originally planned I think Santa Cruz gives Naz a better run for their money. They got the at large over caryahge because they had the head to head results over them as for why pver new paltz d3 is very political... Juniata was a pretty inconsistent team most the season once they switched to and stuck with their freshman setter they started to find a groove I think they should be scary if they can build off their Cvc tournament performance and hosting the nationals if they get there will be a competitive edge for sure.

Rumors I'm hoping we can have confirmed or denied.... Gallaudet is dropping men's volleyball after one year? But Altoona is joining the NEAC so they will get a bid? Valley Forge College is adding men's volleyball but when did they become a member of the NCAA? vfccpatriots.com/news/2013/7/19/MVB_0719131812.aspxIs there a school named Mt. St. Mary's? They may be adding, but who the heck are they?

I heard Gallaudet was dropping as well.
Valley Forge doesn't even have a roster or coaches listed for the season on the website. It all seems pretty unorganized and rushed...
There is a Mount St Mary's up in NY, but I know Mount St Joe's (OH) program is back this year with a new coach and a revamped roster for their return to the CVC.
Lakeland College (WI) is also making the jump to DIII this year, and will be in the CVC as well.

Just glancing over Mike at Saint Mary's(MN) bio; he definitely seems like someone with the ability to start and maintain a men's team. That'd make 4 with MSOE, Dominican and Lakeland already from the NACC having teams. I feel like adding the last two or three teams to get to the NCAA minimum for a bid should certainly be easier than the first few. The middle of the country can definitely use more teams.
