Springfield complains about scheduling? They have 20 home games vs about 7 away matches... Maybe if they were more willing to leave home, they could get more matches. I'll bet there are several teams frothing at the mouth at the idea of having Springfield play in their home gym.

Made the choice to stay independent? Weren't MIT, Wentworth and Springfield gagging for a conference when this thing started to happen? Of course the other two have landed a spot but nobody wants Springfield in their conference... THAT is why they are an independent. Springfield is complaining about the challenges of scheduling with no conference and no conference tournament. And BTW, with MIT getting invited to the UVC ball, Springfield's last D3 match is going to be 3 weeks before the NCAAs. It is nearly impossible to carry momentum from the season for 3 full weeks. If they don't "know" they are in the NCAAs they have to wait 2 weeks after their last countable match to find out if they play again, let alone who they need to prepare for. Nobody would volunteer for that. The year before DIII was added, Springfield had at least one option. They chose to be independent.

I figured we might as well get this thread going as opposed to adding to the 2013 one. With the tournament reportedly expanding to 10 teams, does this eliminate the play-in game? Do 1 & 2 get byes while 3-10 play each other? Is there now two play-in games with 7-10 and 8-9? Who are the front runners for 2014? Here's the final poll from 2013: 1 Springfield (16) 2 Nazareth 3 Baruch 4 UC Santa Cruz 5 Juniata 6 Rivier T-7 Carthage T-7 Stevens 9 SUNY New Paltz 10 Stevenson 11 Kean 12 Vassar 13 NYU 14 MIT 15 Medaille Springfield has won two titles in a row, but it sounds like most people expect New Paltz to be the best team in the country. Does the top spot on the poll go to Springfield until they get beat or New Paltz earns it, or will they pin the bullseye on the Hawks from the start? Baruch made the final four and returns a lot of players, but lost Allison. Does the poll reward them for their finish or punish them for losing their coach? Any reports on who has looked good in the fall? What should we expect the poll to look like in January?

It's still 6? Are they making the NEAC wait for a year?

It's still 6? Are they making the NEAC wait for a year? Don't you need 7 to qualify for an AQ? Currently, they are at 6 and in 2014-2015 they get 4 associate member, 3 which are from the UVC (Hilbert, Medaille, D'Youville and PSU-Altoona). And in 2015-2016, from an article written in June, Wilson College will be adding men's volleyball.

Does anyone see Juniata as a strong team as they have not lost any impact players from last year?

NP has not earned the top spot, and Springfield rightly deserves that nod. That being said, NP will quickly move up the ranks, and based on their talent pool and quality coaching, they should end up being top 5. Based on known returners, key losses and known newcomers, there is no doubt that there are one of the teams that will compete for a 'chip this season.

honestly i would not be surprised if New Paltz started out at as top 5 program in the first poll, let alone had a few first place votes. They were a top 5 team the week before the NCAA tournament took place. They and springfield were the only two teams last year to beat Naz, they were the first team to beat Naz all season last year in the last match of regular season play and had wins over Baruch, Vaasar (2x), NYU, Medaille, MIT, Stevenson, and Rivier. There number 9 ranking last year was just reflective of them not making the NCAA tournament. Weirder things have happened honestly
my top 5 going into this year
Springfield New Paltz Naz Baruch UCSC

My top 5 heading into the season: Springfield Naz Juniata New Paltz Carthage Why so much love for Carthage? Really ended last year in poor fashion. I would slide Baruch into that top 5 based on returning talent before I peg Carthage there.

I would slide Baruch into that top 5 based on returning talent before I peg Carthage there. It's hard to compare teams from different parts of the country. However, I feel that Carthage has a great returning class (http://athletics.carthage.edu/roster.aspx?path=mvball), and it's slightly better than Baruch's. I also feel that Baruch will go through some growing pains with such a young coaching staff (http://athletics.baruch.cuny.edu/coaches.aspx?roster=123&path=mvolley)
