Well first, I have enjoyed all the posts and comments. Most just make me laugh, So much so that I'm not sure who to respond to 1st. I do have some "info" and opinions so take from it what you will.
1. In coaching it is impossible to make everyone happy. People will always have a different viewpoint as to what kind of coaching style works best. The truth is that there is not simply one style of coaching that works. I have seen coaches who yell be successful and I have seen coaches who have a calmer composure be just as successful. Some times coaches have challenged kids and we as outside observers think that we know everything that happens. Most times all we see is a snapshot of what their coaching is like. We are not in practice everyday, not party to every interaction and when we do hear it from player or coaches we have to take what they say with a grain of salt. Few players will tell their parents "hey I wasn't working as hard as I could have" or "I was talking in a huddle not paying attention." People thrive on drama and always find ways to complain about problems. Sometimes these are real issues, some times the issues are false preconceptions. I once had a meeting with a parent about some issues, the next game we made some lineup changes that affected where her daughter started. We had to have a second meeting because I was punishing her Daughter. Truth was We were trying to put the strongest lineup out and my staff had already forgotten about the meeting we had previously.
2. You are always going to hear from people who are upset. How many times have you taken the time to write a letter or call someone and tell them how great of a job they are doing. More importantly how many times have we sent that call to their boss. The sad truth is that we don't until its too late and decisions have already been made. You can read the comments on the new article. Some are negative some are positive. The truth is some player and parents did not like Coach Stanfield or his style. On the other hand players and parents also wrote into support that man. We saw a few, no telling how many more letters and calls came in from both sides of the issue. Was Southlake right or wrong, everyone is going to have strong opinions. But there is something about opinions, excuses and butts(pc for here)
3. Here is some info for you to think about, Kid that was kept from playing is going to UT. (bobby rawls comment my reference) The game she missed was in September. They Played Haltom. There was no football game that weekend, Volleyball played at one Sunday. I'm curious what was so crucial that she had to miss that Friday match. I mean it couldn't have been the travel, its only a 3 hour drive. I'm just wondering if that is what set this whole thing off, could it of been avoided?
4. There is some speculation as to who the next coach would be. Some high profile coaches exist in the area but why would some of them leave their current positions. A few do not teach classes, they have less prep than most coaches who have to teach. We know Stanfield taught cause he's staying on to do that. So why would they sign up for less work, maybe less pay if they aren't an AD or coordinator. Some of them have extreme job security. Why would they go to a place where a state tournament birth and losses to only the state finalist might mean the loss of your job.
My guess is that they hire a female coach who is not affiliated with club volleyball to avoid some of those misconceptions about playing favorites. I look forward to other's thoughts on the subject.
5. As a teacher and coach I can tell you that had Stanfield done something illegal or criminal, he would of been fired or placed on admin leave. He is still teaching at the school which represents as they said a difference in philosophy. Good or bad that debate can go on for eternity.
I think that's it for know.
