I've met Bond a few times and know some coaches who know him well. I really believe he is going to get Iowa back into the middle of the B1G in the next two years. Then he is going to get some top notch recruits after that and keep on improving the program and results. Will take a few studs who really believe in him and the program.....then it will happen.

Thoughts? 0-6 start to conference play, 0-18 sets. Are they looking better than last year, despite the record? Injuries? Sitting 112 in Pablo this week. That's not much of an improvement from last year. I don't presume to know why, just the whats. Been an interesting year. Really pretty strong pre-conference season. Appeared to have solidified a 6-2 line-up and competed well in first B1G match at Nebraska. Then had poor home opener a few days later against the Huskers. Since then, some interesting coaching decisions taking place. Shymansky has inconsistently played Lovell ,kill-leader for past 3 yrs and year-to-date by far: playing her only in some sets late in matches (OSU...came in during 3rd set and had 6 kills and no errors to spark team but was way too late), started one match last weekend in Michigan but only playing back row in the other. She isn't hurt as far as anyone knows. He went to 5-1 offense (using Frosh setter Smith over Klostermann) and mixing up line-up basically match-by-match. They just seem out of sync because of this. Blocking, which had been an apparent strength early, has been basically non-existent. Seems like the type of experimentation that would take place earlier in season, not as you enter the grind of the B1G. Just IMO, of course. Bright spot definitely has been the emergence of Brobst at OH. Obviously thriving with new coaches. I still absolutely trust Bond and his coaching staff. Proven success. Great energy and interest in program is on rise. Trusting that some of these moves will make sense in long run but in the meantime, this has been brutal start to conference season.

I wish we could be in his head, understanding what he's doing. I am sure that he's changing things up based on what he sees in practice and on video, but it doesn't seem to be working. Gotta be extra frustrating for Lovell & Klostermann.

He is a pretty good coach with a ton of experience. I would assume he has explained this decision to the players directly involved, and the team. And that is really all whom he needs to explain it to in this situation.

There is no doubt that Bond can recruit. I think the jury is still out as to whether he can win consistently at a high level.

So happy to see the spark, fight and competitiveness back last night. They need to finish, though! The Hawks many times have 4 Freshmen on the floor so suppose that will come as they get more used to those moments at this level. Thrilled to see Shymansky go back to the 6-2. Suits them for many reasons, including the blocking because it was back. They are missing Lovell's offense at OH but Blomberg is doing a nice job passing. That has to be the biggest reason Lovell isn't getting court time because Lovell had been struggling there at times this year. So, there's a tradeoff there, I guess. I will say this about Lovell: I saw many times last night where she would approach one of the OHs and provide them what appeared to be some coaching from what she was seeing from the sidelines and in a clearly encouraging manner. Speaks highly of her because as a senior that has been the offensive leader of the team for past 3 years, that cannot be easy. Will be interesting to see what happens this weekend against NW. Go Hawks!

My recollection is that OH Lovell has always had good matches vs. the Illini. I am too lazy to go back and look at box scores, but the Hawkeyes could usually count on Lovell to score a point against Illinois when there might have been times in the match that the Hawks were having trouble against Illinois. Glad to hear she is also a good teammate even when she may be disappointed in her playing time. I really appreciate those kinds of players.

Congrats to the Iowa Hawkeyes on their first Big Ten win of the season, taking out Northwestern 3-2 tonight!
Looks like their inspired play against Illinois on Wednesday carried through to tonight's match as well.
Great to see hard work paying off as the season progresses. Kudos to coaches and team.

They said to return to the Field House for some exciting volleyball action versus Iowa on Wednesday. I hope it isn't too exciting! A nice sweep would be good.
