Nice win for Iowa. Although, I must say its hard for me to beleve Iowa beat Purdue after watchng them play Minnesota in Mpls. They were awful against the Gophers.

Glad to see Iowa getting some forward momentum. Give Bond a couple of years and they'll be a solid mid-conference team, maybe more. Interested to see who he signs on Wednesday.

I saw one Iowa recruit in the WiAa d1 final yesterday. I think it was Sandra Mohr. 6'4. She looked pretty good. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Can't recall what year but I looked her up. There were maybe two otber d1s.

The 2015 Iowa recruits I know of are: Reagan Davey (OH from Ocala, FL), Reghan Coyle (RS from Council Bluffs, IA) and Molly Kelly (DS from West Librery, IA). Mohr is coming in 2016. From what I can see, bet they wish they could have Mohr in 2015 because their MHs will be pretty wiped out after this year. Dietz graduates along with backup MHs Yanny and Leppek. That basically just leaves Gunderson, who has proven to be a great blocker but hasn't consistently done much offensively. They will again be really stacked with RSs so would assume one of them may move to the middle? Janota played MH most all of HS and club so she might go to the middle? She's tearing it up on the right this year, though, so bet Shymansky would hate to mess with that. Maybe a transfer or two will surface in addition to these recruits? Will be interesting. But great news is the success this year is with an incredibly young team. 4 Freshmen and 2 Sophomores are regularly on the floor.

Win against Maryland, but to quote even Bond, played great in 1st set, terrible in 2 and 3! Still, getting to 6 wins is nice!

Agree, BigTenVball: getting to 6 wins is definitely nice! Those 2nd and 3rd sets last night were U-G-L-Y! He took the team off the court after the 3rd set for what I'm sure was a "spirited pep talk" that he didn't want taking place in full view. They sure came out fired up after that and closed it out. I do think that identifies one of the key issues left to overcome: inconsistency, both in play and in intensity. But, I really do think they'll get there. Hope they have a good showing tomorrow night against MSU. Would be good for momentum into the off season and would give proper sendoff to the three seniors from Michigan (Lovell, Leppek and Dietz) who have made an impact on the program.

I was sitting close enough to hear Bond "redirect" the team after that set into the tunnel to "chat" out of earshot. haha Iowa looked surprised, Maryland looked surprised, the officials looked surprise. But, what ever he said, worked!! So, good speech! Credit to #14 from Maryland though. Was bringing some very nice swings, especially out of the backrow.

Agree about Crutcher from Maryland...very impressive. And same credit to Brobst. She took some big swings when they were needed for the Hawks and it sure paid off. Excited to watch her progress even more over the next couple of years.

Decent season for the hawks but think bond was hoping for another 2-3 wins, especially in the B1G. What does anyone know about the 2015 recruits? With dietz gone that will hurt. It would be good to see what janota could do back at her natural MB position. Brobst at OH & alm on RS would make a formidable front. Fugarino performed admirally for a frosh in the back row but needs more help. How does everyone else see the lineup filling in?

Iowa needs to address the passing right away! And if the outsides can't pass then they need to go and find Juco kids or something. He gets his 2-3 more wins if they could pass at 2.1-2.2 level.

Yes, vbblood, wish they could have picked up a couple more B1G wins, too. You're right: Dietz graduating is big...really big. Gunderson is only middle coming back (puts up nice block but didn't show much offensively) and no MHs coming in 2015 unless a late commit or transfer. Because of all of this, I also see Janota moving back to natural MH position and I bet she will be even more effective there. Very promising Frosh year for her. One new recruit is OH Reagan Davey from FL. Maybe undersized for B1G but unreal vertical and can pound the ball. Last year's FL 6A POY and have to believe will be same this year, from what I'm reading. Given that Brobst will be at one of the OHs (btw, she was hurt in last set of MSU match but hoping she will be OK), will be interesting to see if Shymansky plays Davey over Blomberg. Blomberg has nice all-court game and serve but lacks firepower at OH, which was needed many times this year. Another recruit is Molly Kelly at DS from West Liberty, IA. Think will add a lot to shore up the back row to help Fugarino, to your great point. The last 2015 recruit is Reghan Coyle, RS from Council Bluffs, IA. Don't know much about her. I could see sticking with 6-2 because even if Janota moves to MH, he has Alm (great Frosh year for her!), Radke and Coyle at RS but suppose he could play around with moving to 5-1. I still think 2016 is the group of recruits that will make the biggest difference. So far, really solid MH, OH, DS and setter coming then. Think the future looks bright at Iowa! One other thing: I admire Shymansky for ensuring that all 5 graduating seniors saw playing time in the MSU match on Friday. They stayed with the program through some big ups and downs and deserved that, IMO. Go Hawks!

I think passing ABSOLUTELY cant get there fast enough. The hitters are B1G caliber, imo. But they need more swings. Bond seems to have them believing in winning, & soon. Thats what id say is the biggest thing ive seen in the change of the team.

Northern Lights 16-1 setter Erin Slinde of Rosemount, MN gets Iowa on the board for 2016. Verbally committed this week. Just saw that Erin Slinde from Northern Lights just committed to West Virginia. When and why did she decommit from Iowa?

When and why did she decommit from Iowa? Most likely due to the setter transferring in from Missouri AND her fellow Lights' club member, Brie Orr, commitment to the school for 2017.
