I think its important to note that Paulina didn't leave PSU "to go to Texas" Paulina no longer felt PSU was the best fit for her looked at and visited other schools and ultimately chose Texas to continue her playing career. It could have been Florida or Miami, it wound up being Texas. I think there is a difference than waking up one day and saying "I don't want to play at PSU, I want to play at Texas" PSU wasn't the right place for her. Can you tell me where you got this information? I'm not trying to be sassy, I'm genuinely curious because the article I linked is the only information I've gotten on the subject. It's nice to know she didn't leave PSU and go to Texas out of spite or bitterness, but because she genuinely didn't think PSU was the right place for her. If you followed her high school recruitment, you'd recall that she almost committed to Texas, but chose Penn State instead; she had said that Destinee Hooker was her favorite player, and was able to meet her during her official visit to Austin. Penn State is a great program, and I had no issues with her selecting them; but, I just had a feeling that a player out of Miami and of Puerto Rican decent might not adapt well up in Pennsylvania. I just thought she'd have a better comfort level in Austin. That was just my opinion back then. So, her selecting Texas as her transfer destination is not a surprise to me; I actually expected it. I felt the same way about Tiffany Baker; different recruitment, but I just had a feeling she'd find her way to Texas eventually. I have the same feeling about Ebony Nwanebu; time will tell; but, I'm already 2 for 2 . . .

Paulina Prieto Cerame has decided to leave the Penn State Nittany Lions to play for the Texas Longhorns. Here's the article: www.centredaily.com/2014/08/04/4291512/penn-state-volleyball-prieto-cerame.html?sp=/99/146/“(Paulina) wasn’t happy and I wish her well,” Rose said in an email. It isn't the first time an athlete has left a well-respected sports program to play for another. The only logical reason why I can think Paulina would transfer is to get more playing time. She was one of the top recruits a few years ago and I always wondered why Russ didn't give her more playing time. I hope she is happy in Texas. Any other reasons you can think of that could explain why Paulina left the Nittany Lions? How about good Mexican Food ...

She's had too much success with USC in just her freshman year.

If you don't like my opinion, that's not my problem. If you don't agree with my opinion, that's also not my problem. But just because I'm not in favor of your opinion doesn't mean I'm shooting it down.

You can disagree, but that doesn't mean I'm not right. As for Ebony Nwanebu, I stated my opinion. You stated your thoughts on Ebony as a fact; but, I doubt you have any clue. Women's hoopster, and National Freshman of the Year, Diamond Deshields, left North Carolina after one season despite all her individual success and leading UNC to the Elite Eight this past Spring; she transferred to Tennessee. So, all the success on the court doesn't equate to happiness.

I totally agree that Paulina left PSU for Texas more playing time and a team that can compete for a NT. If you really want to know more, here's her personal goal:
Born Paulina Prieto Cerame on Jan. 25, 1994 in San Juan, Puerto Rico ... parents are Carlos Rodriguez and Maria Cerame ... has two sisters, Nashali Prieto (15) and Carola Rodriguez (6) ... undecided on a major ... plans to play professionally overseas and hopes to become a member of the U.S. Women's National Team ... names reading, going to the beach, eating and relaxing as her favorite hobbies, "A Course in Miracles" as her favorite book, "Friends" as her favorite television show, the U.S. Women's National Team as her favorite professional sports team, "Eat, Pray, Love" as her favorite movie, Michael Jordan as favorite athlete and sushi, shrimp and Puerto Rican food as her favorite foods.
Another word, if she's not starting, she won't be making it onto the National Team. Period. End of speculation.

To even be considered for the national team you have to be truly exceptional in your collegiate career and that begins with being a starter.

I wish her the best of luck but I think I think this is going to be a battle her or Baker seem to be in line for OH 2 behind Eckerman. I am surprised she transferred she got playing time on Penn States squad when Rose would sub her for Courtney. I don't know also she may have left for personal reasons players and coaches don't always click.

It would be a shame if she made the transfer from Penn to Texas only to just watch the game on the sidelines again. Imagine these two teams compete against each other for the national title this year. How interesting a match, that would be.

For a national title yes it would but I don't think we are in store for that I think they would meet earlier than that and I don't think Penn State has a national championship squad this year, but I have been wrong about this before and if any coach can get it done it is Rose. He is as much as it pains me to say it cause I am not a PSU fan the best coach in the country.

I am assuming your theory is that players from Puerto Rico won't be able to "adapt well up in Pennsylvania" because it's colder, some of the time, than Austin? Has a smaller latino/hispanic population? If it's something else, I'm missing it, so let's look at those two. It certainly is colder, some of the time, than Austin, but many people view that as a virtue -- change of seasons, fall leaves, winter sports, all that. As to ethnic diversity, the main campus undoubtedly has a lower percentage of latino/hispanic students than does Austin, but with more than 2,000 on the main campus, it's not insignificant. Furthermore, Penn State has had several volleyball players from Puerto Rico thrive "up in Pennsylvania" -- most recently Edgardo Goas and Dennis Del Valle (both of the men's team, but I don't believe gender is a valid distinction in terms of what I am assuming is your theory). On the women's team, Dominique Gonzalez on the current team is of latino/hispanic descent and is from San Antonio which, last I checked, is in Texas. And Maddie Martin was from Florida -- admittedly warmer than Pennsylvania, most of the time -- and seemed to "adapt" in Pennsylvania just fine. Looking at another colder-climate school, Minnesota currently has two players from Puerto Rico on its roster -- Jr. Daly Santana and Dalianliz Rosado arriving for this season. From what I've been able to gather from the internet and stuff, Minneapolis has its cold spells. and the percentage of latino/hispanic enrollment is approximately the same as at Penn State ( or possibly lower). But Daly appears to have "adapted well" up there in Minnesota and I have no reason to believe Dalianliz Rosado won't do the same. Players pick schools and, conversely, leave schools, for a variety of reasons. I'm not interested in speculating as to Paulina's reasons for leaving Penn State, and I wish her well. If you are suggesting that players of latino/hispanic descent and/or from warmer climates will have difficulty "adapting well" in places like Pennsylvania, or Minnesota, or Illinois, or Nebraska, or Ohio, or other places that are not Texas because of climate or the percentage of latino/hispanic students at the campus (if that wasn't your suggestion, I'm at a total loss as to what you did mean), I have two thoughts: 1) players have difficulty adapting to college for all kinds of reasons -- and they transfer all the time (just look at the transfer thread here on VolleyTalk) -- again, for all sorts of reasons. As to what I am assuming is your theory, I don't think the reasons you implicitly give stand up as being any more likely to result in a transfer than any other reasons.

I assumed she was the player-to-be-named-later in the deal for Salima to go back Penn State.

Her coach was quoted as saying "she wasn't happy" I guess I am operating from the facts as we know them.
