Paulina Prieto Cerame has decided to leave the Penn State Nittany Lions to play for the Texas Longhorns. Here's the article: www.centredaily.com/2014/08/04/4291512/penn-state-volleyball-prieto-cerame.html?sp=/99/146/“(Paulina) wasn’t happy and I wish her well,” Rose said in an email. It isn't the first time an athlete has left a well-respected sports program to play for another. The only logical reason why I can think Paulina would transfer is to get more playing time. She was one of the top recruits a few years ago and I always wondered why Russ didn't give her more playing time. I hope she is happy in Texas. Any other reasons you can think of that could explain why Paulina left the Nittany Lions?

That would be most logical guess. She wasn't a starter consistantly and maybe that bothered her. Psu is always stacked with talent and she obviously in roses eyes didn't play good enough to take spot away from the other starters. It's would suck if she goes to Texas and isn't able to take starting spot there. How many times do u see a player transfer from a team that just won national championship. My guess would be not often

I would expect that Penn State has a waiting list for elite players wanting to join the Nittany Lions so it will be interesting to see if they will add a recruit for 2014, 2015, 2016, or maybe 2017. I wonder what position they will be looking to beef up? Who do you think will be the next Wonder Women? (just joking)

It is pretty concerning that a player from such an established volleyball program like Penn State would transfer to their rival school. Texas has a great volleyball program, but truthfully speaking, is not nearly as close to as many NCAA Championships titles as Penn State. Penn State has the better volleyball program, so excuse me for being interested in the reason why a player would choose to leave Penn State for Texas.

(just joking) Well, last years starting lineup was made up primarily of seniors, so Russ Rose needs to fill in a lot of positions. Obviously, Scott and McClendon, two great OH's are gone, so the big question is who is going to fill in their shoes. Also, Katie Slay, a wonderful MB, was a big contributor to the team, so who's gonna take her spot? I'm curious to see if an amazing freshman class is coming up, or are players already on the roster (Aiyana Whitney, maybe) going to step and fill in these front row positions.

Well, a friend of mine who had a sister in Paulina's Bi Sci class said she saw a text over her shoulder that said....
Well, I saw on instagram....
Well, I spoke to her old club teammate and she said....
Good luck friend, I'm sure you will get to the bottom of why Paulina REALLY left PSU.
On the next episode....

My guess would be not often Jessica Yanz left PSU after winning in 2007, she transferred to Nebraska only to lose out on the setting position to Sydney Anderson. Dorton did after PSU won in 2010 as well.

True, but as this is still very fresh on all the parties involved it might be healthier to let things settle in before people all start to speculate on why they "think" it happened, especially those who hope she finds happiness.

I think its important to note that Paulina didn't leave PSU "to go to Texas" Paulina no longer felt PSU was the best fit for her looked at and visited other schools and ultimately chose Texas to continue her playing career. It could have been Florida or Miami, it wound up being Texas. I think there is a difference than waking up one day and saying "I don't want to play at PSU, I want to play at Texas" PSU wasn't the right place for her.

You're completely blowing the reason I thought she left out of proportion. There's nothing wrong with me discussing potential reasons to why she left on a volleyball discussion site. And besides, once a volleyball player decides to play collegiately especially with a D1 program as well-known as Penn State, they should expect fans to talk about them. I am not making up ridiculous rumors as to why she left. I am simply giving a possible logical reason that could explain her sudden departure from a greatly respected volleyball program like Penn state. I also said I didn't understand why Russ Rose didn't give her more playing time because I believe that when she was in a game she was a positive attribute to the team, so I do respect her volleyball ability. Please do not come onto a site where people come to talk about something they love and make fun of them. It's pointless. Any further comments you make will be ignored.

Can you tell me where you got this information? I'm not trying to be sassy, I'm genuinely curious because the article I linked is the only information I've gotten on the subject. It's nice to know she didn't leave PSU and go to Texas out of spite or bitterness, but because she genuinely didn't think PSU was the right place for her.

This had to be a very difficult decision for her, and one, I'm sure she didn't take lightly. I can only imagine how tough it must be to come to a program like PSU where all the scholarship athletes have virtually the same credentials coming in . "All everything"...and yet, for many, like Paulina, they never get the chance to prove their worth. She certainly battled the injury for longer than expected, and I'm sure that played a part in her lack of playing time. But she deserves better, and hopefully now she will have an opportunity to fulfill her dreams. Good luck to her.
