Will Lipscomb get an at large bid? I think it would be great for the conference to have two teams in the tournament.

After Northern Kentucky's abrupt exit, New Jersey Institute of Technology joins the ASun.

After Northern Kentucky's abrupt exit, New Jersey Institute of Technology joins the ASun. And that makes sense for the Atlantic Sun Conf? Weird

After Northern Kentucky's abrupt exit, New Jersey Institute of Technology joins the ASun. And that makes sense for the Atlantic Sun Conf? Weird Until 2013, NJIT was in the same conference as Grand Canyon, UT Pan American, Chicago State and Utah Valley so it could be worse. From the A-Sun's perspective, a 7-team conference is dangerously small. One more defection and they lose their auto-bid. In a bizarre way, it's a win-win.

Travel partner with??? miles to Lipscomb = 878 miles to USC Upstate = 689 The answer is Lipscomb who was left without a travel partner when NKU left. Fortunately, there are probably plenty of flights from Nashville to the NJIT area.

That is a very high cost for a bunch of small schools in the south who usually have no flights on their schedule. Wonder how long this will last.

Tommyboy's comment made me wonder how small the ASun schools are attendance wise. So in order from largest to smallest in undergraduate attendance:
Kennesaw State 32,500 (2014) North Florida 16,187 (2014) Florida Gulf Coast 14,673 (2015) Mercer 8,361 (2013) South Carolina Upstate 5,500 (USC upstate website) Lipscomb 4,018 (2011) Jacksonville 3,425 (JU website) Stetson 2,841 (Stetson website)

Northern Kentucky put the Atlantic Sun in a difficult spot. I had heard a conference had to have 8 members for an automatic bid?? Nice field trip to New York area. Took care of an Atlantic Sun problem & is good for NJIT. Just have to pay more for plane flights.

As for the automatic bids, I think it is 7 for men's and women's basketball and 6 for everything else. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Nice field trip to New York area. The "New York area" is a generous description. It's a trip to Newark, New Jersey. If any teams expand it into a holiday in NYC, good for them. But they might just fly into Newark, play, and fly out.
