Do you think NKU should've stayed independent for those few years? I'm sure they were constantly trying to get out of that conference that made no geographic sense to them. But when they were trying to make the jump from D2 to D1, they were willing to go to whatever conference would take them. My point. If it made no geographic sense, why did they join the Atlantic Sun? NKU joined ASUN because they needed a conference to sponsor them to join DI. It was part of the process at the time they transitioned, and may still be the rule to join DI now from DII. The ASUN was the only conference (or best fit geographically) that wanted them, so their choices were to stay DII or join ASUN. It was pretty well known that they would be moving on to another conference after their transition period was over. The ASUN is not a high profile conference that is going to attract or retain many strong sports schools.

Just love how people belittle those not up to their level and expectations.

Kennasaw State is adding football and will play football in the Big South Conference. How long until they leave?

Just love how people belittle those not up to their level and expectations. Did not belittle ASUN. Stated facts. They are an above average VB conference and have gotten a NCAA at-large bid a couple times. That is about par for most of the sports in the ASUN - some sports a little better, some worse. ASUN does not have football. Fact is that teams come and go from the league, and some use it as a stepping stone to get out of DII & NAIA, or to get to a higher profile conference. Do you dispute those facts? And if so, did you look at the history of teams joining/leaving the league?

NKU and Lipscomb were already plane flights, this just makes it a bit longer. True for some, but I'm guessing a round-trip to Nashville for most of these teams is much cheaper than a three leg trip to Nashville/Newark/back home. I could be wrong, but I'm also guessing this means they are not playing Friday/Saturday anymore like they always have. Maybe Thurs/Sat or Fri/Sun, but that would mean an extra night of hotels and meals as well. I'm guessing around an extra $300 per person in the travel party. Say a small travel party of 15, that is $4500. For most of these programs that would be significant budget hit. If your talking about a whole athletic program those costs add up. KSU has updated their schedule to include NJIT, and it is as I expected with Friday/Saturday matches at NJIT/Lipscomb, respectively. This will actually be an easier trip than NKU/Lipscomb was. After playing Friday they take a short flight Saturday morning/noon instead of a long bus trip to/from NKU. The cost will be almost identical to prior years, as direct one way flights are $150, which is about the same cost as a charter bus. Well I guess they will have to pay for transportation from airport to venue. So they rent a couple 12 passenger vans for a day at $150 each. I think that covers everything.

Just looked at KSU's page, they are playing Friday/Sunday. I couldn't imagine them flying and playing on the same day. It's going to be a big increase, but the schools know that and voted on that. They obviously can handle it.
