Nice field trip to New York area. The "New York area" is a generous description. It's a trip to Newark, New Jersey. If any teams expand it into a holiday in NYC, good for them. But they might just fly into Newark, play, and fly out. FYI, Its 20 minutes from NJIT to Time Square without traffic. And NJIT has been begging to get into an AQ conference since joining D1. They'd have joined any conference but are especially happy to join the ASUN.

That is a very high cost for a bunch of small schools in the south who usually have no flights on their schedule. Wonder how long this will last. NKU and Lipscomb were already plane flights, this just makes it a bit longer.

True for some, but I'm guessing a round-trip to Nashville for most of these teams is much cheaper than a three leg trip to Nashville/Newark/back home. I could be wrong, but I'm also guessing this means they are not playing Friday/Saturday anymore like they always have. Maybe Thurs/Sat or Fri/Sun, but that would mean an extra night of hotels and meals as well. I'm guessing around an extra $300 per person in the travel party. Say a small travel party of 15, that is $4500. For most of these programs that would be significant budget hit. If your talking about a whole athletic program those costs add up.

My point is that the teams were already going to BOTH Lipscomb and NKU on the same weekend in prior years. So, not comparing it to a round trip to Nashville. 3 leg trip is similar cost to the past. And it may be an shorter time trip as NJIT might be easier in/out than NKKU. I doubt ASUN will change to Fri-Sun, but if they do it may be for all their matches. There are already a couple other tough travel trips between Upstate/KSU and FGCU/Stetson.

I agree with most of what you said, but I'd imagine most teams bussed from Lipscomb (Nashville) to NKU (Cincinnati) so it does add an extra flight and an extra day of meals. Also, the Cincinnati airport, while certainly nowhere near the size of Newark, is a decently sized.

All may be true, I don't know. We'll find out when schedules are released and in talking with those coaches.

The KSU schedule was released after NJIT joined. While the schedule does not yet include NJIT, all the other matches remain Fri/Sat. There is also the opening to slot NJIT with Lipscomb as travel partners (as someone else mentioned), and just plug NJIT into existing schedule on same weekend as Lip. www.ksuowls.com/schedule.aspx?path=wvball

Still can't believe N. Kentucky couldn't see a few years in the future when joining the Atlantic Sun. Glad they are happy now.

I'm sure they were constantly trying to get out of that conference that made no geographic sense to them. But when they were trying to make the jump from D2 to D1, they were willing to go to whatever conference would take them.

I did say "without traffic" making it purely hypothetical Still, NYU has played home soccer games at NJIT so its not that far.

Because it's still much better than being an independent. You can't just join any conference you want and at that time, no other conference would take them.

Being married to someone better than being single, until somebody better to be married to comes along in just a couple years.
