Yes, people call it "The Pav." Gotcha. I will return to hating the term in silence. Just got home from the Gopher match--and "The Pav" is now written on the court, along the sidelines, so it must be an official nickname for it!

My thoughts: Our block was not there. I don't know what was going on. But we just couldn't get it in place fast enough. We need to get that together before tomorrow night.
Our passing was a little off. I will say that in the beginning, Bates didn't impress me on serve receive. She had LC running all over the place. Lauren made it look easy, though. She distributed a balanced offense.
I think we really clicked in set 3. I think I like Bates as L2. She calmed down some and her passing looked good. Her hitting looked great. Her first college kill just about took off a Louisville player's head.
All in all, a workmanlike performance.
Excited for tomorrow!

Liked Bates too. She's athletic, with a good jump and real pop on her swing. Got her first kill, block and ace in her first set as a badger. Thought Morales seemed a tad lethargic and out of sync early on, but she was actually doing much better in the second set. It will be interesting to see how that competition develops, though I'd hate to see Morales's attitude taken out of the side. Her example generally doesn't allow anyone any excuses.
I wonder how much the slow block had to do with scouting. Louisville is such a changed team, and it's so early, it may have been hard to prepare for tendencies.

Ok, you two (you know who you are). Sheffield said he is done talking about 2013 season. How about you do the same? This is, after all, a 2014 MATCH thread. Relax. People talking about Wisconsin volleyball again is a good thing. At this point int he conversation, there wasn't a 2014 season to talk about yet. Geesh.

I was in the middle of writing something that I decided not to. In the meantime, Dorothy's post was the post I was trying to write. I am totally on board with Pelc regarding how good Carlini is, and her contribution was enormous, but it wasn't "THE" reason. Wisconsin's success was a perfect storm, of new life breathed into a program that had talent, extraordinary chemistry, good fortune and a player who just put them over the top. You just don't do it with one player in this sport, I don't care who that player is. I'm in full agreement with Pelcj11 and Dorothy in saying Carlini makes the Badgers a very good team but Hancock also makes the Lions a very good team. I'm looking forward to their 9/24/14 meeting.
