Washington doesn't fall as far was Florida State despite losing two matches to teams out of the top 15 and FSU losing to a top 10 team. Not surprised. UW lost in 5 to both teams, and have no other losses in a conference that has 9 total ranked teams. Do you really think the voters in this poll take the time to catalog the 100's of matches played thus far into 3, 4, and 5 set matches? I suspect they don't look beyond W or L.

Why is BYU ranked #12? I see ZERO wins against top 25 teams on their resume, and losses to unranked San Diego, Santa Clara Why is Purdue ranked #16. I see 1 top 25 win on their resume- a 5 set home win over Ohio State, and losses to unranked Iowa, Saint Louis, and Western Kentucky. Just goes to show you that where a team started out in the preseason poll is STILL a big factor in the current rankings, 3 months later. I've got a word for that, but I won't use it here.

Southern Cal hanging tough at #25. Amazing. 14-12! This just shows how biased this poll is... If there was another name on USC's record, they would have been out of the poll a long time ago. I've never seen a team that has 12 losses at this point in the year still in the poll no matter who they are.

UW has two losses, both 5 sets, both on the road. PSU has three losses, one at home. So PSU moves ahead of UW. If Penn state loses at Michigan Wednesday will they be #1?

I don't think PSU should be ranked higher than UW, but why is it that shocking or bothersome? RPI of team's PSU lost to: 1, 9 and 11. RPI of teams Washington lost to: 29 and 47. Washington beat Wisky in Seattle in 5. Penn State beat Wisky in Madison in 3. What if Penn State wins (not a given by any means...Michigan and Nebraska will be dangerous) out and Washington loses to Stanford? Still a joke to you? Beat Stanford and you'll easily move back up. Lose to them--especially if its at home in less than 5 sets--and get back to us.

I'm still convinced that many of the coaches who take part in the polling have only a modest interest in the process and take only a cursory glance at results. And as AY mentioned earlier, so much of it is driven by reputation and heritage and where teams finished last season. Honestly, as I've stated multiple times, I'd much rather have a team feel slighted and overlooked in the polls and even in where they are seeded. As a coach I'd want my team playing loose and not trying to live up to high expectations. If Stanford ends the regular season unbeaten, I think those players are going to be tight as a drum after the first round.

Yea I agree, Wash is likely the better team, but because its the polls and because there are only 2 weeks left of Reg Season... its more that WASH dropped below PSU than "PSU moves ahead of UW" - UW's losses were this past weekend, PSU hasn't lost since Oct. 11

The one common opponent is Wisconsin. Washington needed five sets at home to beat them. Whereas, PSU swept Wisconsin in Madison.
