It would make sense, but 1) I think the USA still has to technically qualify 2) Due to roster limitations, I just don't see how bringing an inexperienced backup (but very, very, very talented) would make sense when going against the Brazils, Chinas, and Italies of the world. Maybe she gets time in team workouts, but USA still has Glass, Kreklow, Thompson, Lloyd, etc. I don't think anyone other than Glass has a firm grip on a spot. Carlini could easily pass the others I agree, though I think Kreklow definitely helped her case this summer while Glass was injured.

Received my end of season survey for ticket holders tonight, overall mostly useful straight forward questions. However, as somebody that apparently has the plague (I do not have, need or desire to have a cell phone) I thought it odd that I could not skip the "mobile experience" portion of the survey like other sections of it appeared to. It was only an extra 6 questions, each of which I just typed in "other: I do not have a phone".
The survey just could not comprehend that, surprised it was able to complete itself without fainting.
I did say that there were far too many local dance teams, had they had at least one intermission with the drum line, I could have stomached all the local dancers. But not even once did we get to see that awesome performance they put on with the drums

Love drumlines, but I'm a drummer, so...

*Wiswell frets about the fall season back row already.* I don't think there's any reason to fret. A-Mac will rest and recover this spring. Dodge and Dodd are solid DSs. Dixon is also possibly going to train as a DS. So that's twice as many DS options as we had this year. I say Bates gets "Deme'd" to make room for haggerty on the left.

But not even once did we get to see that awesome performance they put on with the drums I do have a cell phone, but they did sort of fixate on it. Do they not want us to actually WATCH the match? I gave good marks all around, and only had suggestions for keeping the riff raff (*snicker*) out my reserved section. I will say, while it probably benefitted someone (families with young children, for example, people waiting in a long line for concessions), I don't think I ever saw even one second of the match on one of the 27 TV screens. But I don't get up during sets either (and usually not at all).

We bring friends with small children, and they appreciate the monitors when they have to walk the kids around.

I take it back. I forgot I watched the last couple points of the Minnesota loss on the monitor because I had to get up because my back/pesky right leg was hurting (that match was like 2 hours/40 minutes). It's not that I don't appreciate the monitors, it just seemed odd to have so many. At any rate, yeah I brought it up, but it's a non-issue for me. It neither improves nor diminishes my "fan experience."
In retrospect, it would be nice (to me anyway) if Bonnie would announce some Big Ten scores from around the league, especially the "hot" matches (like football games do). Of course, I can see how others WOULDN'T want that because they DVR'd it, so it's not essential (especially because I could look it up).

We get our moneys worth out of the bottomless bucket of popcorn so all four of us (or less if the kids are working floor crew) take turns getting the refill. I will watch on the TV's spread through the concession area but realistically, the concessions area and the floor are basically right next to each other so all I usually do is just turn and watch the court while getting my fill up. Probably still a better view than some seats in the Big Ten

In case you missed it:
Carlini, 1st team AA, Nelson 2nd team AA, Morey and Williams, HM. Pack your bags Lauren and Nelly, you're going to Omaha!
Carlini becomes the second 1st team AA in school history, and God willing will be the only 3x 1st team AA next season.

What I think you mean is that Carlini is the second 2x first team AA in school history. Tricky to say, but yay!
But especial congrats to Haleigh, who just keeps getting better and better. Who would have thought she was AA material when she began?
Really surprised Morey didn't make any of the teams. That doesn't seem right to me.

Morey's numbers were down just a schmear (-0.5 dps). Normally not material, but I think since Nolan's numbers were enormous, she got the nod as the token libero. So it's more about Nolan than Morey I think. Nolan was really super her weekend in Madison and well deserving. I don't know W-O numbers without looking at it again.
There should be a defensive AA category.
And yes, I meant 2nd time for a 2x 1st team. Whew! At any rate, Williams will be added to the display board in the concourse, and new data will be added for Carlini, Morey and Nelson!
This appears to be our best stretch of awardees in history. In 2006, Simpson was a 2nd teamer, and Dolgner an HM, in 2007, Dolgner was 2nd team, Reineke 3rd team, Simpson, HM. In 2000 and 2001, Fitzgerald was 2nd teamer, Livingston 1st teamer (fewer teams too).

Really surprised Morey didn't make any of the teams. That doesn't seem right to me. The AVCA got rid of the position requirements for voting this year, meaning that coaches no longer have to vote for X hitters, Y setters, Z liberos, etc. They could have only hitters and middles on their ballot if they wanted, or a ballot full of setters. Consequently, liberos, who tend to be the most overlooked anyway, probably didn't get as many votes overall, meaning that it's less likely that any libero would make an AA team. You notice that there are zero first-team liberos. Also, I think Wisconsin's premature tournament exit probably had something to do with it. Had we beat Florida, it might have been a different story. Statistically, J-WO and T-Mo are about on par, and T-Mo beats Formico. But West Coast coaches are going to be more familiar with Formico than T-Mo, and J-WO's being on a FF team gives her the edge. Taylor Formico, UCLA, L Stats: 4.50 D/S, .180 Opponent Team Hitting % Justine Wong-Orantes, Nebraska, L Stats: 4.53 D/S, .171 Opponent Team Hitting % Taylor Morey, Wisconsin, L 4.49 D/S, .170 Opponent Team Hitting %

There aren't more West Coast coaches than East Cost.
