Really surprised Morey didn't make any of the teams. That doesn't seem right to me. The AVCA got rid of the position requirements for voting this year, meaning that coaches no longer have to vote for X hitters, Y setters, Z liberos, etc. They could have only hitters and middles on their ballot if they wanted, or a ballot full of setters. Consequently, liberos, who tend to be the most overlooked anyway, probably didn't get as many votes overall, meaning that it's less likely that any libero would make an AA team. You notice that there are zero first-team liberos. Also, I think Wisconsin's premature tournament exit probably had something to do with it. Had we beat Florida, it might have been a different story. Statistically, J-WO and T-Mo are about on par, and T-Mo beats Formico. But West Coast coaches are going to be more familiar with Formico than T-Mo, and J-WO's being on a FF team gives her the edge. Taylor Formico, UCLA, L Stats: 4.50 D/S, .180 Opponent Team Hitting % Justine Wong-Orantes, Nebraska, L Stats: 4.53 D/S, .171 Opponent Team Hitting % Taylor Morey, Wisconsin, L 4.49 D/S, .170 Opponent Team Hitting % That is all fine and makes sense (not really regarding number of votes per position) but what I don't understand is how Nolan gets the 2nd team ahead of the 3 listed above unless they were voting specifically on stats alone

Congrats to the Badgers. I am especially thrilled for Haliegh Nelson and Tionna. May you touch 10' in 2016! What a marvelous accomplishment, and proving that being a smart and determined can overcome a few physical limitations. Here is to becoming the National Champs in 2016

As the AA is driven by numbers, I can see Nolan's case, though I couldn't say she was better than Morey after watching her. Maybe someday we will get passing numbers for liberos as well as digs/set, which I think is affected by all sorts of variables unrelated to the quality of the libero.

Side note to that: Mary Ording (last season was 2012) was a Cathedral grad, and I believe she was an assistant coach at Cathedral recently. I think she's studying at IUPUI or Butler right now. One of my favorite players as a person! She was on that great Munciana team with Christina Gray, Darcy Dorton and Mia Tabberson. Kim Kuzma was a little ahead of them.

Received my end of season survey for ticket holders tonight, overall mostly useful straight forward questions. However, as somebody that apparently has the plague (I do not have, need or desire to have a cell phone) I thought it odd that I could not skip the "mobile experience" portion of the survey like other sections of it appeared to. It was only an extra 6 questions, each of which I just typed in "other: I do not have a phone". The survey just could not comprehend that, surprised it was able to complete itself without fainting. I did say that there were far too many local dance teams, had they had at least one intermission with the drum line, I could have stomached all the local dancers. But not even once did we get to see that awesome performance they put on with the drums I'm on the Fan Advisory Board, and they've been really pushing the mobile experience across all sports. Several app redesigns, WiFi installed, etc. Makes sense it would get some questions given the priority.

Nothing beats the halftime entertainment one time at WBB when these guys with trampolines did all kinds of tricks like dunking the basketball starting from half court or something ridiculous like that. It wasn't these guys, but similar. It was quite awesome. lordsofgravity.com/Then at another WBB there were those chinese acrobats who could spin a ridiculous number of plates (it's hard to explain).

In case you missed it: Carlini, 1st team AA, Nelson 2nd team AA, Morey and Williams, HM. Pack your bags Lauren and Nelly, you're going to Omaha! Carlini becomes the second 2x 1st team AA in school history, and God willing will be the only 3x 1st team AA next season. Yes, I quoted myself. Here's the article from WSJ. The other WSJ. host.madison.com/wsj/sports/college/volleyball/badgers-volleyball-lauren-carlini-named-to-coaches-all-america-team/article_424165af-6174-5405-99ed-2bb83cc680fa.htmlDennis, if you are reading this - Lizzy Fitzgerald was a two-time All American (2nd team both times). Now, if you just mean 1st team, that is correct for Livingston.

I think we need nicknames for these things. 2x 1st team = doing a Livingstone 2x 2nd team = doing a Kennedy (or a Fitzgerald) If Carlini makes it to 1st team next year, we can call 3x 1st team is "doing a Carlini."

Hopefully next year there will be a "Nelson" (1x 2nd, 1x 1st).
Actually, a "Carlini" will be 1x 2nd, 3x 1st, not just the 3x first team. I can't imagine going from no AA or 3rd team to 3x 1st team AA (although, volleytalk historians, anyone know?) So it will be a "Carlini," or potentially, a "SSS." (both setters!) How long we have to wait before she gets in the Hall of Fame? They consider post-degree success, correct?

Italian heritage, so it's gotta be Reale Carlini!
