Why must there be always be someone on here that makes such an incredible honor, a negative. Im a huge Illinois fan and I can still respect and enjoy someone else's genuine success EARNED award. Don't sell these young girls short, especially this one, no need to be a jacka$$,save that for another page. Congrats Micha -every bit of it earned! Whoa are you related to her or something I was just addressing other posters suggesting her national team chances were likely. I was simply furthering the conversation. Maybe you missed my last paragraph where I complimented her plenty she is a great competitor and athlete and as I first saw really thought she was only a mediocre setter who was surrounded by great hitter but I think she has developed into a fantastic setter certainly one of the best in the country. I think there isn't really much of an argument whether or not she is deserving. No need to false hype her as our future National Team setter or server. Its just an unrealistic expectation at this point. Plenty of athletes have fantastic collegiate careers and may never see the National Team. I don't think my comment was in any way malicious or rude. Why would it be false hype. You have no idea weather she would make national team or not. She may not even wanna play volleyball after this year so it may not matter. She may decide to walk away just like brown did after her 4 championships. Some players have other things they wanna do in life after college besides sports

Some players have other things they wanna do in life after college besides sports Considering people are saying she is the future of setting in women's volleyball, yeah, a bit presumptuous. Hell, someone had a thread earlier saying Alohi Robins-Hardy was the future of women's volleyball and a future national team setter. Also presumptuous. Does Hancock have a chance, sure she does. But at 5-11, she's just a tad undersized. Granted, doesn't mean she can't or won't, just a challenge she's going to have to overcome. Carlini on the otherhand is the prototype in terms of size as a setter. And seeing how she played with the rolled ankle shows tons of grit and competitiveness. Granted, doesn't mean she's the future of national team setter either. Karch has it pretty good right now as a coach. Yet there is still room for both of them should Glass and Thompson falter. Karch liked to run Glass in the front, and Thompson in the back in a modified 5-1/6-2 system. Definitely room for both of them, however, each will have to prove themselves against some pretty damn good competition.

Some players have other things they wanna do in life after college besides sports Setters who have come and gone who were and are better than Hancock are waiting in line for that spot. I certainly don't know why this surprises anyone. Have you watched international volleyball the players are bigger, stronger, faster and better in nearly every facet of the game. Hancock's size much in the way Madi's was last night would be extremely exposed on the block. International hitters and coaches would expose this with relative ease. Also for what its worth our current National Team setter in Glass is better than her I thought she was in college and is now. I would even take Courtney who set the national team also before her. Those are only a couple names and there are others who can compete for the spot. This isn't to take anything away from Hancock but its like comparing the best of college to the best in the world, pretty much no comparison. Now someone wants to say her serve well we have some explosive attack servers on the current national team and Karch has them all serving jump floats you think he would simply reserve a roster spot for a serving specialist and Hancock's floor defense while good isn't fantastic. Its very unlikely.

Its very unlikely. yet Karch runs his modified system with both Glass and Thompson in the back row, with a deference to Glass as the later so when the subs run low, Glass can play front row. There is definitely room for someone like Hancock on the US team. And she has the advantage of being a great server too, thus has possible 2ndary role as a serving/setter sub, on those as needed basis'. If so, it would also place her under some great tutelage of some great players and setters and give her a chance to learn. Will it happen? Who knows. But I wouldn't dismiss the chance. Hell, I will say the same about Cassie Strickland as a possible libero/ds/server sub in the future as well. Sure, she's a raw libero and learning the position. But I think there is definitely potential there as well.

I LOVE Micha! Loved her since day 1.
I think she should try out as libero for the NT or play beach. She would be a great beach player! She can dig, hit, pass and set!
Courtney Thompson is shorter than her and plays as a setter (sub) in the NT. Although Micha is a great setter, I do think size does matter to be a primary setter on the int level. I don't like Glass at all but Karch seems to like her 6'1 frame. Everyone is raving about Carlini and her being in the NT at some point but wait until the 6'5 Kathryn Plummer gets to college! She's an amazing setter (and hitter) and if she continues developing, she WILL make the NT!

I see where you're coming from, Volleyfan. However, I've learned that many players (past and present) on Team USA’s roster were heavily doubted immediately after graduating, so it may be too early to judge Micha’s potential on the national team. Glass, who was and is still criticized by many posters on here, just won the World Championship’s Best Setter award. People thought Cynthia Barboza and Kristin Richards were going to beat Larson for the spot behind Tom, because Larson wasn’t considered to be an efficient attacker. Courtney Thompson was judged for being too short for the next stage, but she did a stellar job at setting Team USA at the Olympics when Berg got injured; speaking of Berg, people questioned if she would have a chance to make the roster in 2010, citing her age and weak knees. Megan Hodge was doubted for her passing game to take it to the next level, as there was Destinee Hooker who cemented the OPP position. Then there’s Kim Hill, who had a loud career at Pepperdine, but was silent in the national conversation about becoming the next big thing for Team USA. If Karch allows the topspin serve (Sunderland says Karch is transitioning his players away from the topspin), then I wouldn’t doubt Micha’s chances at bringing her serve to the women’s game. A serve like that is as just as lethal in the women’s game, similar to the way Bartosz, Wallace, and Maxim’s serves take players out in the men’s.

His serve was terminal and hits were crazy and also showed he was underrated as a blocker.

Congrats to Micha! Extremely deserving for this award. Apparently she wins award and gets her bag stolen in the same day. Hopefully that bag didn't have her uniforms in it. I heard Carlini stole her bag because she felt that award was hers ;-) I about fell off my chair when reading this. I am glad I was drinking coffee at the time.

Teams are still unable to contain him. For someone his size in the men's game, he's so lethal on the pipe!

I have been very impressed in Hancock's senior season her best setting as she has really developed well, but I am refuting a starting position and just a position in general. Do you believe she is better than the like of Lauren Cook, Plum, Llloyd? Just to name a few who would want that spot setting for our national team its not like its just the girls who do set for the national team but the ones waiting in the wings. Now like someone else posted sure Hancock is good but I thought just judging her on her setting last night that may have been one of her worst performances of the season her sets were ugly to me I mean she got it to her hitters but I felt I saw a lot of doubles not called so let em play but also her location wasn't great.
