B1G Pre-season Coaches Poll 1. PSU 2. Nebraska 3. Illinois 4. Wisconsin 5. Minnesota 6. MSU 7. Purdue 8. OSU 9. Michigan 10. NW 11. Iowa 12. Indiana 13. Maryland 14. Rutgers I can buy the reasoning for the top 4. I'm a little less sold on the relative rankings of the next 4. OSU seems low, for one thing. What do others think? 5-8 might as well be 5,5,5,5 It is always amusing when the coaches' poll reorders the AVCA poll. However, I think it is about right.

What's new? Perpetually underrated Michigan should always be north of Ohio State Geographically, sure. Right now volleyball-wise, no way.

Michigan will finish ahead of Ohio State AND Minnesota this year I laughed. Why? Did Minnesota beat Michigan last year? No. Did Michigan split with Ohio? Yes. Sure, Michigan, once again, has the toughest B1G schedule, and yes, they lose a tremendous setter and person in Lexi Dannemiller. But what else, have they lost versus gained? Nothing. 4 quality players, including the highest rated High School player, according to Prep Volleyball, in Carly Skjodt have arrived. They also get back a healthy Kelly Murphy and Ally Davis, start the season with a healthy Claire Kieffer Wright, add one of the best DS/L's in the class in Jenna Lerg from Legacy, have as good a backrow as any team in the conference, and gained experience at a ton of positions last season. So in spite of having a very tough schedule, ranked #1 nationally in SOS, I believe in them and think there are more than a few reasons that others shouldn't sleep on them. That includes you, Badgers, as you are one of the youngest teams in the conference. You do know that you have 5 players on your roster that actually played significant number of sets of D1 volleyball in 2014? You also know that Michigan had you dead to rights at Ann Arbor last year and you wriggled off of the hook (down 10-12 in set 5). So yes, your returners are very talented, but there are a TON of questions as players make the transition to D1 and the B1G. 4th in the conference might be a little high, but for those that predict Wisconsin as 4 in the nation are REALLY elevated. It's On Wisconsin, and every other B1G opponent. Best of luck to all.

She was 26th, which is still respectable, but I count 11 higher rated freshmen going to B1G schools. Yes, Michigan beat MN last year the one time they played in Ann Arbor. This year the tables are turned. See you at the Pav.

From January of this year, if you have a membership, read the full story under awards. The Maize and Blue is excited to have her join the team, along with the other three members of her class. It is a team sport and Michigan will have a solid season. See you at the Pav and in the tournament. You, like many others, seem to forget that Michigan has been to the Sweet 16 in 5 of the last 8 seasons, and aside from Penn State and Wisconsin, is the last B1G team to play in the Final Four. Go Blue!

The senior player of the year award is based on high school (not club) achievements, I believe. Although it's a huge award, the "senior aces" are a more comprehensive ranking. I'm sure she's a great player, just not "the highest rated high school player" as you stated. Although all of these lists are a bit subjective anyway.
Carry on.

Looks like all the conference games will be on either BTN or BTNPlus, but TOTALLY WEAK SAUCE when it comes to pre-conference scheduling. Rainbowspouse and I are fortunate to have the means and availability (and level of insanity) to drive to both Louisville and Omaha for Wisconsin's away preconference tournaments, but we're oddballs, and not everyone who follows the team closely will be able to do that. Even (especially) the parents. I know of parents who make the several-hour drive to be at every home game and are glued to the TV or stream for away games. Crappy that they will not be able to see their kids play. I'm sure it's the same for the other conference teams in the month of September. That broadcast schedule is sparse. Boo to that.

Both did better last year and return more.
