IMO, All tournament team was bs. hbc's libero shouldn't have made it Denny Kouri shoud have. MVVC also played surprisingly well. They came in as the 21st seed nd finished 9th. They took Torrimar to three, and I was impressed by their outsides, a middle #37 and their libero #8 Totally agree libero from HBC was aced about 6 times against 949 in quarters and didn't come up with any digs that were eye catching

I've heard similar about the BJNC and the all tourney team in particular. Think the committee felt obligated to select someone from HBC and the libero was the least "risky". He has a good feel for the game and can be a team leader, but it appeared he was overwhelmed by the physicality of 949 in the quarters.
949 landing 4 all tourney players was not surprising - heck they won the tournament. It appeared their setter (#8 Paragas) was in control all week; their opposite (#4 Kobrein) crushed some balls but needs to develop a better feel for the "whole" game (he rarely passes or appears to play defense); and their outsides (#38 McSweeney and #27 Browning) dominated all week playing solidly blocking, hitting and playing all around good defense and serve receive. To discount the play of their middles would be a disservice as they were timely with key swings and blocks.
Didn't get a chance to see the finals, but was impressed with 949 and MB Surf during the week. Torrimar was solid, but think the 949-MB Surf semis was the best match. MB Surf middle was strong as was their libero - just appeared that 949 had too many weapons

When it comes to arizona recruits Cole Udall is the one that pops out to me. Plays for aspire who go 5th for 16 Club at nationals. We will see how much better he gets but for now he is the best.

If Udall is a pure OH and still only 5'11" he's gonna need to have a growth spurt here pretty quickly to continue to compete at a high level. Agreed?

My understanding is that the libero is a son of one of the HBC coaches. Maybe that had something to do with it. In watching them play, one of their pin hitters deserved it much more. I agree about the 949-MB Surf match. Just like at the Boys Classic, this should have been the Gold medal match. Great play by both sides. 949 played better and deserved the win. The MB Surf team hung in tough. The libero for them (#4 Brill) got touches on a number of balls keeping his team in many plays, he is very solid. The MB (#18 Talley) was strong as well and has a promising future. The pin hitters for MB Surf were strong as well, particularly Cajuste (#14). The issue with the MB Surf team is they lack a 2nd MB. I felt the winner of this match would win Gold. Torrimar had nothing in the middle and they lacked height. Although the final went to 3 sets, I had no doubt that 949 would win. They have a lot of talent. It will be interesting to see what happens next year with both 949 and MB Surf. It was fun to watch these teams play each other multiple times at the end of the season.

Thoughts on class of 2018 recruit Luke Grafton on MB Surf 16s. He was their former setter and now their libero. Luke Grafton is a very well rounded player. He now splits his time with Zachary Brill who was one of the strongest liberos last year and is probably one of the best for the age group this year. I watched this team last year and have seen them play this year. Grafton does not have the quickness to the ball that Brill has for the position. I guess the team feels they are ok to have two players rotate at the position, however.

I feel bad for all the great players and not so great club teams, there was a clash of the titans during BJNQ in Anaheim between two lesser teams but the two opposing outside hitters were much better than any other outsides i have seen yet. I think it was Sport Performance (chicago) vs. VCVC 16 Alii but the Outside on both teams were freshman The outside for Sports Performance was a sophomore at that point. I don't know about the other guy though
