Alex Anastassiades, 6'7 OPP from the HBC (not sure what team), committed to Long Beach State. Thoughts? How can a sophmore already commit to a college...?

Top east coast players for this class? I can't speak for the rest of the East Coast, but for the southeast area of Virginia there will be nothing of substance coming to the stage for a long while. The Coastal Volleyball club lost about 50 boys this year when they chose not to have any twos teams at the 17 or 18 level and then combined several of the younger (15 and 16 yr olds) boys onto three 16's teams and have one 14's team. This left nothing for the beginners. It seems that Coastal is not concerned with developing talent. It looks as if they are streamlining the club to be nothing but national level teams. The Coaching expertise has drastically fallen off. Here is what Coastal will bring to the table this club season: The best of the area will be the revamped 18's team. This team could be the best team to ever come out of the Coastal Stable or Virginia. Too bad it will be the last! The 17's team is and will continue to be very underachieving, too many individual players with no team play. The 16's National team does have height and a couple good outsides at 6-6 and 6-5, but no experience anywhere else. One of the outsides might turn into a very good prospect, or both. The next best thing will be the 14 National team. There could be some surprising stars surface here if the club hold together and doesn't implode.
Haters are going to hate but get your facts straight. We have 7 teams, 2 less than last year with about 15 less kids in the club. The ONLY reason we didn't field two teams at the U17 & U18 was that a number of kids thought they were too good to be on a 2s team and either quit completely or played elsewhere. We have more kids on our 14-2 team now than we EVER have had at this point in the season. Not sure why you are posting we only have 1 team. And we just put together our 16white team filled with first year U15s and U16s. We also have great young coaches with both these teams that are committed to teaching the game the right way. If you look at the college commitments from last year, we had 14 kids play college ball. That's on par with or better than the most successful clubs in the country. That's not by accident. So please don't speculate how good or bad our teams & players are going to be this season because you don't know what you're talking about and you're obviously trying to spread hate and discontent. Not sure why you are intentionally trying to undermine Coastal but you need to stop.

Alex Anastassiades is in the Class of 2017, however he is born in December '99 so he could be playing 16s this year. Yes, I can confirm he verbally committed to Long Beach. The HBC 17s team split up, so Alex now plays for HBC 18s. There have been no 2018 commitments yet.

Not sure why you are intentionally trying to undermine Coastal but you need to stop. Posts like the one you repsonded to suck and hurt the sport. Whether it's a disgruntled parent (sounds like it) or someone else, the negativity undermines a sport already struggling for college ADs to give it the funding and love needed to do well. There is no purpose in promoting ill will here. For what it's worth, as a parent with kids in club volleyball, if I read a post like that, I would look down upon the author and not the club. If anything, it would make me want to look into the club. Granted, my one last kid playing club volleyball is probably 3000 miles from you, so there is no horse in this race. But I would hope that the few parents who actually read this site would recognize that such a post comes from a malcontent. On that note, I am fully aware that at times a club experience may not be what was promised or envisioned; it happens. My kids have played 16 club volleyball seasons combined between them for four different clubs, and of those sixteen, only one was a subpar experience. If your kid has fun, gets better, is able to be a kid, and learns what it means to be part of a team, then all is well. Keep doing what you're doing.

I feel like Archer on MB Surf is the best outside in the 16's division by far...any thoughts? Archer? He's a DS/Libero. Are you talking about Max Cajuste? I believe he's on the YNT 24 man roster.

Now that players in the class of 2018 are getting college contacts and four players have already committed, I think it is time that we talk about the best players at each position in 2018.
I have a few names to share of some physical hitters I've seen Jerod Nelsen - Outside Hitter - 6'6 (Mountain View 17s) Ryan Wilcox - Outside Hitter - 6'2 (Spike and Serve 17s) Cole Pender - Outside Hitter - 6'3 (Balboa 18s) Brandon Browning - Outside Hitter - 6'5 (949 17s) Max Cajuste - Outside Hitter - 6'2 (MB Surf 17s) Andrew McSweeney - Outside Hitter - 6'4 (949 17s) Ben Weinberg - Outside Hitter - 6'4 (MVVC 17s) James Hartley - Outside Hitter - 6'5 (from Carolina, but I think plays for Ocean Bay 17s) *class of 2019 Ethan Talley - Outside Hitter / Opposite / Middle Blocker - 6'7 (MB Surf 17s) J.T. Martin - Middle Blocker - 6'7 (Ocean Bay 18s) Danny Wong - Middle Blocker - 6'6 (MVVC 17s) *class of 2017, but taking a gap year so he is basically class of 2018 Jason Koehler - Middle Blocker - 6'6 (Long Island 17s) Jaxon Drake - Middle Blocker - 6'5 (MB Surf 17s)
Anyone have any names to add or dispute? Setters and liberos?

Setters and liberos? Only familiar with the west coast so here's my take: Setters: Patrick Paragas - 949 17s; got snubbed from all tournament team at JOs but a top setter regardless Kyle Merchen - MVVC? Not entirely sure what team; believe he was also on the BYNT Buddy Scott - Outrigger 17s; very physical player Matthew Pennala - HBC 17s; Had a strong showing at JOs; not as skilled as the other setters but definitely has potential Liberos: Ryan Pecsok - Surf 18s; arguably the top libero in the age group overall as well Zach Brill - Surf 17s; very consistent player and interesting to see how it will play out when Pecsok (likely) moves to the same team next year Grant Guinaaso - HBC 17s; volleyball is in his blood and his dad as a coach helps a lot I know I'm missing a few but those are some that come to mind.

Heard the big opposite from HBC 17s is going to grey shirt after this year and become a 2018 recruit. Very physical but raw because he made to move to opposite late in the season last year and doesn't have the experience as some of these other players. Some other top players would be opposite Kevin Kobrine (949), and setter Blake Crisp (SMBC,Bones?).
