After speaking to some folks, here's the official reasoning for Doherty-Mayer & Broder-Valjas with taking China's WC spot:
1. The World Championships regulations state that any replacement teams after this date will be placed into the same pool as the team they are replacing. 2. This is what happened with Doherty-Mayer (USA) & Broder-Valjas (CAN). 3. This was also done at previous World Championships because the host country matches have been promoted with Live TV scheduled for months. It would really disrupt this if one withdraw affected many pools.

Poland Fijalek-Prudel [4] defeat Egypt Usama-Ayman [45] 2-0 (21-2, 21-9) 0:26
The players say the two easiest tournaments they play are the Olympics and World Champs

Brazil Antonelli-Juliana [7] Algeria Boucheta-Bayou [42] 2-0 (21-7, 21-0)
Cam, can you confirm this is accurate? Juliana/Antonelli allowed zero points in the second game?

The lowest two scores I've seen ever both come in the same day... well then.

Whats the rationale behind the six week schedule? I get why they let in garbage teams from countries that dont really have BVB but why is this tournament dragged our for so long. It started three days ago and there are two more days before the first significant thing happens. Based on watching live streams it isnt like anyone goes to midweek FIVB events anyway, so why do seven days of it?

Pool Play wrapping up today, but all US teams have already clinched spots in the knock-out round.
Fendrick/Sweat finished 3rd in pool, but are guaranteed to be one of the top 4 3rd place teams by virtue of their 2-1 record, so they won't have to play in the 3rd place bracket to see who gets into the round of 32.
Kessy/Day got second in their pool and Ross/Walsh will either be 1st or 2nd depending on the results of their match against Bansley/Pavan.
Doherty/Mayer and Hyden/Bourne have won their pools. Lucena/Brunner will either get 1st or 2nd. Gibb/Patterson are current 1st in their pool, but could still finish 3rd depending on the outcome of today's matches; however, even if they end up 3rd, they would still advance in the same way as Fendrick/Sweat.
Good tournament so far for the US with an overall record so far in pool of 16-2.

Doherty/Mayer taking advantage of the break they got. Given the scores it seems fair to assume Kerri is not 100% recovered but should be interesting to see how they do

Donny use the HOLA Chrome extension suggested on Cam's site and set it to Germany.
Chileans looked very smooth -as they did in St Pete. Lion-o is trying to pull out all his tricks to win this one, not to mention he is full time blocking
Sand seems packed so lots of hard hits
