Yes they did play a few. No blockers tho. Nick blocked when hyden served and Vice versa Back to nick and theo they have beat some really good teams. They also just beat Ricardo in 3 and handled a really good Russian team in pool that took the #1 Netherlands to 3 and should have won it. Was up 5-1 ans lost in 3. But I guess your right maybe not top 5 but top 10. I was a little excited at the time. Lol It appears that St. Pete has done wonders for US men's confidence levels... I was going to say your totally right then Patterson gibb gets rolled up by the Brazions pretty bad. Lol. Nick moving on tho

For much of the St. Pete tourney Nick and Theo looked like our best team. Even when they lost to Gibb/Patterson they blew a big lead in the first game.

Brazilian women in strong position to sweep the podiums at World Championships. I'm guessing that would be a first.
Ridiculous parity on the men's side and ridiculous domination on the women's side.

After this tournament they may move past Patterson gibb in rankings. Even if they win, they will not pass Gibb/Patterson in entry/seed points. They could pass Hyden/Bourne, however depending on their respective finishes. Gibb/Patterson will also drop a 3rd off their point total after they play their next tournament (presumably Gstaad). So they will need another podium or they could fall at that point. Entry points is determines the automatic 1st - 3rd main draw for US teams versus 4th which means CQs and qualifiers. So that gives them a little more time because entry points are determined 21 days before an event starts. So Lucena/Brunner are stuck in 4th until Long Beach. The finishes in Gstaad, Yokohama and the rest of World Championships will go a long way to determining who the #4 team is. Believe it or not, there is even an outside shot the #4 team could be Dalhausser/Rosenthal. Sean's bad finishes with Slick combined with Phil losing points because of tournaments falling off the 365 day calculation period could mean they fall to 4th. I'd put money on them getting a wildcard if that happened, however (especially since it will be Long Beach). Actually, whoever the 4th team is likely to get a WC to Long Beach. Meaning the race is really for Olsztyn.

Do the World Championships earn more points toward Olympic Qualification versus Grand Slams (or whatever they are called this year)?

Yes. Top 12 finishes over the qualifying period.
World Championships is worth more than a Grand Slam/Major
EDIT: Points in attachment are per player, so you have to double for the team points.

Thanks! With the injuries and partner switching on Team USA (Men and Women) it is going to get very interesting.

Man Brazil women and pretty much top 4 teams in the world. There really hard to beat. And on the men's side there solid also. Seems Brazil is always so consistent. You really have to beat them because they don't have bad games. Wonder why? they seem to do everything just a little better than everyone else. They dog more balls, pass better, set better etc.
The men's team bump set better that most also.

Brazil just flat out better than everyone else in the world. Their domestic tour is flourishing, They have uber talent all over the place, which basically breeds more talent through competition.
Don't see that changing anytime soon. They could very well sweep Rio on both sides.
Been hearing in grassroot circuits that with the emergence of the FIVB over the last 10 or so years, which goes on the same as our seasons here in Merica, that it will continue to struggle building a solid foundation here in the US.
Hell, we have a professional Beach Volleyball tour here that can't even figure out how to get it's product to people that can't attend the events.

Don't see that changing anytime soon. They could very well sweep Rio on both sides. The way I read the regs, even host country is limited to 2 teams. If true that would avoid the sweep thank goodness. Otherwise I would agree. But we are still over a year away. Lots can change. Injuries, year older for some (Emanuel, Ricardo).

On the womens side sure, but on the mens? Evandro and Pedro have really come on but who is the second team? Allison and Bruno with their season high 4th? The ancient Emmanuel and Ricardo? Those are good teams but neither has been on a podium yet. Hardly dominating the mens tour. i think this year, you could probably say that the US men have been just as successful and the best US team hasnt played a full tourney

Before Worlds I would have argued with you, but given the play of Hyden/Bourne and especially Lucena/Brunner this past week I can't anymore.

Sort of rabbit trailing, when is ROsie/Dalhauser going to be ready. Really hope they can stay healthy because I think an injury that gives even a limited break to either pretty much knocks them out of Olympic qualifying.
