Am I going out on a limb by saying lucena and theo based on the way there playing are in the top say 5 teams in the world right now? They seem to be clicking on all cylinders right now. They just beat a good Germany team also and knocking off the brazians in st Pete who I think was playing some of the best volleyball right now also. They even beat the team that knocked tri and hyden out of st Pete. I think it was a bad draw to play against Patterson in st pete as they just seem to have there number ans at this point it was more of a mental thing to lose to Patterson gibb

Heard so much from some of the guys who have played NORCECA about these Cubans. Watched them play yesterday versus the #1 seed and almost pulled an upset in pool play. Now they took out the favored Spanish team. What is ironic is having a 6'7 defender with a 6'4 blocker. I know Salgado/Concalves sometimes had Pedro blocking full time, however the Cubans enforce the smaller player to the net every single game.

Nick needs to get more credit. The combination of he and Theo's results the last two tourneys, combined with Doherty falling off the map with his new partner should tell us something about how awesome Nick is. Strange that he and Hyden didnt do better though. Similar defense first teams have done ok. Maybe the weakness of their service game?

I think they are playing really well, but saying they are top 5 in the world based on a 3rd and half of World Championships is a bit much. Off the top of my head... Pedro/Evandro Nummerdor/Varenhorst Brouwer/Meeuwsen Herrera/Gavira Emanuel/Ricardo Have all had better starts to the season than them. Even Gibb/Patterson would be ahead of them in my mind because they won St. Pete. They are certainly on a hot streak, but before St. Pete they had a 17th and two 25ths in Majors/Grand Slams. So top 5 is too much, too soon in my eyes.

I think the problem with Lucena/Hyden as a team was their lack of blocking. I remember watching them play together, and Nick was full time blocking during some of the matches. (Although they once won a match by Nick roofing Ricardo on match point!).

Yes they did play a few. No blockers tho. Nick blocked when hyden served and Vice versa
Back to nick and theo they have beat some really good teams. They also just beat Ricardo in 3 and handled a really good Russian team in pool that took the #1 Netherlands to 3 and should have won it. Was up 5-1 ans lost in 3.
But I guess your right maybe not top 5 but top 10. I was a little excited at the time. Lol

Who and Hyden? He and Nick played five FIVBs together a few years ago Ok, I thought you meant Ryan or Theo and I couldn't recall Hyden playing with either of those. I'm sure Hyden setting Nick was also some of their downfall too.
