Okay, here's my totally unsubstantiated conspiracy theory on all this. Kerri is signed up so they can market her for the tournament, but solid chance she won't be able to go. If she pulls out, then Fopma can play with Ross and Misty takes Fopma's spot with Hochevar, allowing Leonard to do promotion around her. That actually makes more sense to me than giving a spot to Fopma/Hochevar over Summer/Carico. Why not just give Misty/Brit the wildcard? That would be as automatic a choice as you could think of Because that screws Fopma, and you need her to be available to play with Ross if Kerri can't go. Leonard just wants to make sure he's got at least one of the Golden Girls in the tournament. BTW - I'm still making this all up and could very well be dead wrong.

She's playing Seattle as a favor to Brit, but there is no comeback in the works. Edit: One caveat - one of her nicknames is "Mystery May," for good reason. She might disappear from the sport forever after this weekend, she might decide to play some more for fun, she might move to New Guinea, who knows?

Anyone know if Czech Republic players Kolocova and or Slukova are playing or playing with whom at Long Beach....? Their website and FB pages say they have split. Website says Slukova is playing with Hermannova. Long Beach registration still has them playing together and Bonnerova playing with Hermannova.

I think guest2 was questioning my conspiracy theory by suggesting that if they wanted Misty in LB, they would have given her the wild card directly. My theory works something like this (which I'm sticking with for the time being). Leonard approaches Misty and says, "If Kerri can't play, we really need you to help bolster the profile of our event. You only have to play if Kerri can't." He then gives Fopma/Hochevar the wild card so April has a partner if/when Kerri backs out, leaving Hochevar to play with Misty. Of course there is an appearance fee involved, plus Misty agrees as a favor to Leonard and Holly. If Misty were worried about getting embarrassed, she wouldn't take her chances on going uno-dos in a weak AVP tournament this weekend.

BTW it appears Misty and Brit left the CBVA because of weather.

Looks like a couple teams have withdrawn and Rosenthal/Brunner are now in the main draw.
And if things hold, I take back what I said about the Hughes/Claes qualifier wildcard. As of now, the women's Q is filled.

Does anyone know much about the "premium seating" for the FIBV Long Beach? Anyone know any discount codes for it, maybe through a sponsor? It's a bit pricey!

Does this event always run the week after Manhattan, or is that just how the dates fell this year?

www.fivb.org/en/BeachVolleyball/viewPressRelease.asp?No=56274&Language=enThey all want to capture the storied AVP Manhattan Beach Open, the fabled Southern California tournament that put the sport on the map when it debuted in 1960. But there’s another giant prize looming on the immediate horizon. That’s the ASICS World Series of Beach Volleyball, where the players will continue their quest for Olympic qualifying at the FIVB Long Beach Grand Slam, which opens on Alamitos Beach next week.

So, the WSOBV twitter just posted a pic of Misty practicing at the Long Beach site today - Hochevar is in the pic too. So maybe my theory is not so crazy? Anybody (Klatz?) know whether they would even be allowed to make such a partner switch at this date (i.e., Walsh drops, Fopma plays with April, and Misty takes Fopma's place).
