Claes/Hughes drawn to play Carico/Ross in the first round of qualifying. So much for getting experience against international teams, hopefully the youngsters can put up a better fight than they did last week.

CQ's usually are on Monday, but I haven't seen or heard any results. I had heard 2nd hand at the Manhattan Open that the CQ was early Tuesday - so I'm guessing that's the case.

No they happened today. Just Brazil and Canada. The qualifier draws actually just got posted. Hughes/Claes are playing a Swiss team, my bad.

And nine American teams each in the women's and men's qualie. Last year there were two women's teams and three men's teams. Guess some foreign teams didn't want to travel to the LBC this year.

All the teams listed are straight into the qualifier since it looks like the qualifier didn't get filled by international teams. Guess most didn't want to make the trip over for just the one tourney?

Ya, no CQ cause the quali isn't full. Looks like USA just packed the remaining spots: 14 USA Men's teams, 13 USA Women's teams. Geez.

Similar thing happened in St Pete were additional american teams filled in the gaps in the quali; back in the day it would never happen, but there were no stops in the US

I think this is a big tournament for Jake & Casey. After a 3rd and 5th in back to back AVPs, they need to show they aren't wearing down. I think the FIVB play schedule agrees with Jake more. They have this tournament, Olsztyn and Ft. Lauderdale left on their FIVB schedule this year.

Does anyone know if this is being streamed? Doesn't look like laola1.tv is covering this one either...

And that explains the dozens of American players showing up at last night's technical meeting hoping to get a spot in the qualie. It was like a volleyball caravan on the 405 from the South Bay to Long Beach.

Since many of those U.S. teams have zero FIVB points, how did they decide which ones got in and where to seed them in the quali?

Some interesting qualification pairings/matches. Crabb/Allen could be a decent pairing. Will be interesting to see how Bates/Drost play together and whether they split block. Skyler McCoy (NVL) playing with Page - wonder what the back story there is....Casey Jennings must be like WTF - I cant get a break with his first round match...
