I can see your point and think it was disrespectful however there was more to the situation that lead to the situation and it was not done out of disrespect. Wentworth took advantage of the situation and won the set. My understanding is that when NP had their practice at the NCAA's they had a competition between the starters and second team, winner gets the start vs Wentworth. Second team stepped up. I had heard the same, but I don't see how that changes that lack of respect shown; in fact it only reinforces it. That being said, clearly the better team won, so it's all water under the bridge. Wentworth had their success this year after losing both their all-conference setter AND his backup over the Winter to academic ineligibility (one of the liberos who had set as a HS Freshman stepped in and did a good job), and they only graduate two Senior serving specialists, so I would suspect they will be back a year wiser and with chips on their shoulders.
Good luck to both teams today. I know who I will be rooting for.

Why is kean university even invited to the ncca tournament anymore? Complete joke, they offer no comp to any ranked teams. This may be the stupidest post on here. Not even going to answer with an actual response. Just going to tell you how stupid you are. I think the OP demonstrated that on his/her own without your help d3vballlegend.

WIT Daddy- you've got to be embarrassing your son. Your starting lineup took a set from their backups. Be happy with that. There's no disrespect when a coach is motivating his roster that has coasted for most of the season, and then follows through by lighting a fire under his guys. They are in the championship match and he's national coach of the year. I think he knows what he is doing. Second- your kids are STUDENT-athletes. Stop making excuses for your setting fiasco. That comes down to the students to hold up their end of the bargain and to the coach for having control over his roster and making sure the guys are getting their work done. Your starter and backup should feel wonderful for having front row seats this whole season. Hopefully they were using their time wisely to catch up. And for your current setter- again, maybe that's on the coach for not having more depth? If you want to be a top program you have more than 2 options at each position.

I love how you make it sound so easy, your obviously not in this profession. But to add some clarity that your probably unaware of, the setter in question probably has a higher GPA than 50% of the guys playing in today's championships. It's not like he is academically ineligible because he is caring a 1.5 GPA. His major requires him to maintain a B average and him carried a B- last semester. At every other school in the country, he is not academically ineligible.

I thought it was pretty clear that I wasn't making excuses for their setting "fiasco", but praising the team for their success in spite of it. If that wasn't how it read, then it was its intent, believe me. As for embarrassing my son, if posting my opinion (that I still stand by) on a sparsely attended D3 volleyball blog is the worst I do, I think we are both making out pretty well. Thanks for the haughty rebuking, though; that speaks volumes.

Back to the most pressing DIII topic of the day- it will be interesting to see if NP can hold off Sullivan & crew for a third time this year, or if the increase from 3-5 sets in the last meeting was just setting the table for one heck of a championship match.
For entertainment purposes, I would love to see a five set, knock down slugfest. Good luck to both teams!

Honestly feel that it is a toss-up/it will be the closest championship match we've had in a long time. If SC wins, it will be because they are able to slow down the NP middles, while if NP wins, it will be due to them stopping the SC pins. This should be a great match.

Just catching up here... New Paltz up 2-0.
What on earth would make anyone think Springfield could sweep NP?

So what do we conclude about this season?
- One team can beat another team three times in a season - UVC did come out on top - That national final was a match-up of two power house teams
See you all next year!
