China, Russia had easy victories and USA should likely have no trouble with Cuba.
Korea and Dominican Republic are battling it out now, tied 1-1. Winner will likely finish sixth in the tournament, not shabby for DR considering they are without their star player. If Korea loses, that drops their record to 2-6 in the World Cup and that is not impressive at all.
The big match of the night though is Japan vs. Serbia. Although the loser is not mathematically eliminated from this match, its pretty hard for me to see either team finishing top 2 at the World Cup if they lose.
Japan's issue is if they lose they still play China and USA, and they already shot themselves in the knee going five sets with Dominican Republic.
If Serbia loses tonight, they will only still probably finish with two losses, but the match points are a concern. Their wins over USA and Russia were only two match points because they were both in 5 sets.

Serbia should secure at least a silver medal. Love this team, so much firepower and many hammers on the team. Boskovic is a star

The scores are up from last night (early morning for us.). There would have to be some major losses for Serbia to break into the top two. I agree Serbia has been really impressive

USA and China winning the next three matches each (without going 5) will put them in the top two. They'll most likely be tied with Serbia in terms of win-loss record, but both US and China have more match points.

I am going out on a limb with my knowledge or lack of...there's an European Cup that takes two from there and doesn't Asia have a tournament that teams could still qualify for the Olympics? I don't know if Serbia could make it to the Olympics if the had to play in a European tournament. Even though they have played very good.

Serbia basically gets automatic Ws from here on out. USA and China both have matches against Russia - they are definitely rooting for Russia to win at least once, and both USA/CHN have potential slip-up against Japan.
I don't think China, without Hui and Wei, is playing well enough to beat BOTH Russia and Japan. I think that opens the door for Serbia.
IMO, the most likely outcome at this point is USA winning and Serbia 2nd. Russia/USA in the next match could disturb that.

The demise of Cuba's national team program began in Havana. Their coach, Luis Felipe Calderon, came under suspicion after Aguero defected and attained Italian citizenship. He became extremely paranoid and convinced that he was under state surveillance, and made (unsuccessful) efforts to leave the country himself. He died in 2009, in Cuba. The official reason was "mad cow disease." Support for the program, for a variety of reasons, has never been the same.

Or if Russia beats China and USA beats Russia, Serbia finishes top-two. (likely scenario). You could also flip that, if Russia beats USA and China beats Russia, Serbia still top two.

Its amazing whats happened to Cuban volleyball. So sad.. Cuban Volleyball? ?? What about just Cuba? I think Cuban Volleyball is going to be great again in years to come. And as a matter of fact, without going too far into the political side of the Castro regime, Cuba has a high literacy rate and I think Cuba as a nation is headed the right direction, away from corruption. But that takes time. Anyway, Melissa Vargas is the future of Cuba Volleyball. She is their best player by far and its a shame she wasn't able to play in the World Cup. She is only 15 years old. She helped Cuba to a 3-1 win over Dominican Republic at the Pan Am Games. Cuba, besides Vargas, still is struggling but they are a very young team.
