When thinking of the tournaments, don't forget there are more than just any open weekend to think about. If you did a May or June tournament, would that push the FL/Nola tournament to August?? big mistake, and so on.... As you see, this is before Hermosa, WSOVB and MB.

Seattle has long summers. April - Sept is fully playable / tourney worthy Ardi, you just said a beach tournament in April is conceivable. No, man. Just... just, no. I hosted two this year in Snohomish County. With junior athletes. April in Seattle is not much worse than the conditions on many of the FIVB stops.

It would have been great to have the event with a view of the Seattle skyline, but I don't see any way that the AVP footprint would have fit on Alki Beach. And parking would be a world class mess. Hardly a way to endear yourself to a fan base. The NVL has a much smaller build out and will be a great fit for that location. Having the event on the East Side could have its advantages. There are far more junior indoor players on the East side of Lake Washington than their are in Seattle proper. Lake Sammamish is easily accessible from I-90 and has tons of room for parking. NBC will be able to use pre-shot footage of Seattle and Pike Market on the broadcast, just like the networks use for the Seahawks games. Scheduling beach events in Seattle at any level is hugely challenging. Not to mention having to work around the FIVB calendar and a National TV Broadcast contract. It does appear that most of the big teams will be heading to Seattle. Several of them skipped NYC. It's incredible for the beach volleyball community to have both tours coming to Seattle this summer. There are a lot of people who have been working very hard to create a beach volleyball culture in Seattle and the fact that we will get to see two professional volleyball tournaments in 2015 is testament to the hard work that they have done. What a summer! My 16 - 18 week estimate was from mid- May to mid-September, and those are definitely months where you are likely to have decent weather. July - mid-September is prime, but there is still a solid window. And the AVP was on Alki a ton in the late 80's and mid 90's heyday, when there would be more courts needed and much larger crowds than today. Today's AVP needs a stadium court and three side courts, so definitely doable. Overall, I hope it works. But I'm fearing the scenario that due to poor scheduling crowds don't meet expectations, leading to Seattle not making it back next year. We'll see. Madi, I took a look at your site and it's great that your club is promoting the tournament. I hope it helps. And side note, I grew up in Mukilteo and first learned about/became a fan of beach volley on a sand court built on top of a basketball court (plenty of skinned knees) next to Silver Lake back in the early 90's. Judging from what your club is doing, it is good to see there are much better options in the area these days! We just had a training session at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park last night! Look us up next time you come to visit.

April in Seattle is not much worse than the conditions on many of the FIVB stops. SoCal people have a very skewed idea of what playable conditions are. 70-85 and sunny 300 days a year will spoil you a little

Ok, I'll backtrack a bit. I played a number of times at the meat locker in Magnuson when it was in the 40's-50's. You are pushing the envelope when you need to wear regular socks underneath sand socks to keep your feet from going numb. I've played Alki in mid-June, sat through a lightning delay, then finished in a downpour. You can bundle up your juniors in lycra bodysuits and surf booties to play in the clouds and wind on a given day in April.
But to tell a pro organization 'Yes, the weather will be good enough to play, and comfortable for the fans in May', is a complete crapshoot.

The Hague is no bargain either. Anyway, the players hate it and the fans stay away. Sure, you can play in those conditions, but who wants to? To be fair, I am one of those spoiled Californians.

So I created a separate thread, too, but looks like Misty-May Treanor is playing with Hochevar. Also interesting to see Hildebrand entered on the women's side. I believe someone mentioned her in another thread as a player that might be able to transition to the beach. bvbinfo.com/Tournament.asp?ID=3108

This is using AVP points posted on the site. A few of the Q teams have events in 2014 that I thought would carry over to some points, but don't seem to in what is published.

Since weather is brought up, not sure even So. Cal can match Santa Cruz....generally 68-72, seemingly year round (of course it hits the low 60's in winter during lunchtime), 30% humidity, 3-8 mph winds...REGULARLY, YEAR-Round....95 degrees in San Jose, 68 in Santa Cruz, 30 minutes away....Just say'n....Best in US?

Is there a list anywhere of who is playing Seaside? I'd like to see which teams are skipping the Q.

Is Hudson taking a week off or did he get dumped? Bomgrens passing up what would likely be a main draw spot?
Are they playing Seaside?

There isn't a list for Seaside, but it's pretty obvious if that Qualifier list is final quite a few players are skipping the AVP. I don't see local talent even looking to give it a go... I get to Seaside Thursday night and can post a pic of their Men's Open Board if anybody is interested.
