Beach volleyball is in desperate need of a new face. Its great KW wants to go get a 4th, so would I. However there has to be a transition to a younger crowd. Little VB girls might look up to K & M for inspiration within the sport, but there not looking at them saying I want to wear that outfit, make-up or bathing suit. Let alone buy something from them. Sports is marketing to mass media and VB is in the tank right now on that topic, imho. yep, so true, but until someone knocks off KW & MM or can display some other quality to market , they won't be marketable. Tiger hasn't won a major since 2008, and it's only been the last two years (with Rory & Speith) that golf has begun to find a marketable replacement for Tiger and Phil - replacing transcendent figures is no simple thing - so you might as well milk every last ounce of pub from the MM/KW storyline

I don't think it's anything to get sensitive about. I'm not a huge Kerri Walsh fan for similiar reasons, I just get tired of seeing her all over the place in volleyball marketing. But she's earned it. I find I like chubby Misty and injured Kerri much more than I did their dominant incarnations. I enjoy seeing Kerri's dedication (her rapid post-pregnancy comebacks were something I always enjoyed because, like fighting through these injuries, they really spoke to her love of the game.) Misty's focus yesterday for the same reason. After they got whipped in game 1 against Lane/Summer Misty could have folded and it wouldn't have mattered at all, just like her win wont really matter to her legacy. Given that it was nice to see her just refuse to lose to a pair of whippersnappers

I'm genuinely curious why you were "never a huge Misty fan"? Over-rated talent-wise, attitude, character, off-the court behavior? Mostly the way the media covered her. The "best sideout player in the world" thing that commentators used to push annoyed me and was obviously false (since she got served all the time). I found a lot of the interviews she and Kerri used to give very fake, but most of all I was, and am, a huge Elaine Youngs fan. Thanks for responding. I really was curious. Elaine Youngs is not a bad pick.

I think in the current climate, Olympic success is probably a prerequisite

Bristy about to take Game 1 from Day/Kessey. Misty has to dig 2-3 balls to put one away and she is dead slow, but it doesnt matter because anything Day hits, Misty is standing right there.

What does it say that Misty can take three years off, return to play as a favor, and win against our better teams? Granted, she is arguably the best ever, but still, sad for the U.S.

Misty is just a smarter volleyball player than the rest of them right now. She is not even close to dynamic as she once was, but still a step ahead of the game.

Bad serve by Britney led to a couple digs and now Kessey/Day are back in. Watching it you feel like they should be winning and it may only be a matter of time. Misty just hit a jump float serve and it honestly looked like she had to rush to hit it before she landed. Jump not what it was
9-7

Jen ducks out of the way to give Misty an ace and its back to 4. They may win this in two. 12-9 switch

I agree - her ability to control the back line from reading the hitter and flow of the point is just unbelievable. She's 2 steps ahead, and isn't even making sprawling plays on defense because she's already there.

Two digs from Misty and a throwback left side putaway. Its 14-10. If I am April Ross I am getting worried right now
