Are all these posters criticizing hawaii over one fan, not realizing most hawaii fans from the begining said we would need to WIN OUT to get a seed.. Or did they forget that? From the RPI Futures thread it appears that Hawaii will be RPI of 29 if they win out (that is the projection). Can't see them even being in discussion of a seed with their resume and a 29 RPI.

I meant WIN out. Including winning UCLA.

The only seed Hawai'i and the Wahine are getting is from Lin's Market. But it just doesn't matter.

Ah I understand now.
And to answer your question - no, I did not know that most Hawaii fans said from beginning (of season) that they needed to win out.
Perhaps some did and I forgot.

But none of which actually help Hawaii, so I don't know how it's going to help a Hawaii fan off the ledge. There is no ledge. There may be for that particular poster but he is merely one voice. RPI apologists crack me up- so defensive in support of a flawed system. See, the problem is that you're still discussing the RPI like it's a system that is supposed to rank the best teams in their proper order. RPI isn't that. It's designed to reward tough scheduling and to incentivize teams from the power conferences to schedule games against good mid-majors. With the RPI system in place, mid-majors aren't locked out of the chance to compete against the best teams in the country. RPI is doing its job. Hawaii, in terms of scheduling, is not.

I know what it's supposed to do. I never once thought that it's supposed to rank the best teams in the proper order. That said, it is still a "ranking system" because it "ranks" teams based upon wins, losses and strength of schedule. If it wasn't a rankings system, the Committee would not be able to identify Top 25, Top 50 wins. You are correct in its purpose though. My problem with it is that it was developed for Basketball, not for Volleyball. I do find the scheduling comments by those who are not privy to the challenges Shoji faces interesting. He does the best job he can. This whole seeding process is a farce.

There's nothing stopping Hawaii's volleyball team from scheduling a pre-season trip to increase their SOS other than the unwillingness of their administration to pay for it.
I do agree that RPI should stand for Really Poor Idea.

Would it help their RPI if they used a neutral site somewhere on the islands? Does such a site exist?

I thought RPI had home, away and neutral components to it. Someday I might actually figure RPI out, but there's always laundry to do.

For volleyball, home or away matches does not matter. Strength matters. Power conferences matter.

Let's not forget that @$$%*!* matters too. But having said that, let me take this time to send an apology to bofa for referring to he (and others) as RPI apologists. I told him I wasn't going to apologize but I'll just suck it up and say I'm sorry. For those unaware, bofa has done a great deal of work advocating for a better tournament selection process so it was a mistake to label him as an RPI apologist because he isn't. He just understands the system better than most. Please note that my apology is only for bofa, and not for the other dumbasses who gave their 2 cents on the matter.

Would it help their RPI if they used a neutral site somewhere on the islands? Does such a site exist? USS Abraham Lincoln, halfway between SF & Hawaii. Plenty of room for a volleyball court on the flight deck.
