Decency is for social events. When money and services are exchanged, it's no longer just a game, it's business. So, it's win at all costs, "sportsmanship" no longer exists? What is going on with sports events nowadays? If your team is good enough, they will win the match on the court. They don't need your "help" by harrassing the other players. I hope one of the volleyball players throws a chair at you and breaks your nose!

That would never happen Mumsie. Players can't display poor sportsmanship. Only the fans. The players must just take all the harrassing, heckling and abuse from the the fans because they most are on scholarship and the fans paid to see them play.
Right 7th Woman?

Just because you purchased a ticket does not give you carte blanche to do anything you want, including being obnoxious. "This ticket gives me the right, no, the duty, to make a complete ass of myself!" - Homer Simpson I'm afraid I'm not familiar with this "carte blanche" phrase, but I concede that buying a ticket does not get anyone any rights to be obnoxious. All I'm saying is that heckling individuals really isn't as big a deal as everyone makes it out to be. It only bothers people who let it bother them, and I don't think it is that much to ask of the particpants to tolerate it a little bit.

carte blanche ( P ) Pronunciation Key (kärt bläsh, blänch, blnch) n. pl. cartes blanches (kärt bläsh, kärts blänch, blnch)
Unrestricted power to act at one's own discretion; unconditional authority: gave the contractor carte blanche to modernize the kitchen.

"This ticket gives me the right, no, the duty, to make a complete bottom of myself!" - Homer Simpson Wow, an appeal to the authority of Homer Simpson.

Although I appreciate 7thwoman's spirit, I disagree with him on this topic. Having to resort to persistent heckling of female athletes is a pretty feeble way to help one's team win.

Well, the participants obviously don't have much choice than to "tolerate it a little bit". And, I guess it's up to the School Administrators to determine when it gets "out of hand". You know what I noticed after attending a college (Pacific/Idaho) women's soccer game recently? At soccer games, the fans scream at the refs continuously for "bad calls". You don't see that as often in volleyball. However, I didn't hear one word said to harrass the players. And, soccer fans are among the rowdiest!

Wow, an appeal to the authority of Homer Simpson. That was a joke, Pablo. You can start laughing now.

Bit of a double standard though, don't you think? (By the way, it's been a long time since I've had enough spirit to practice what I'm advocating here.)

Of course. I'm not advocating any chair throwing. Sheesh! Really, college soccer fans are rowdy? Well, I know that. It was a "joke" referring to that baseball game in Oakland. Actually, I thought the woman deserved what she got, although the target was probably her husband. Actually, the soccer PARENTS were worse than the College students! ;D

Really, college soccer fans are rowdy? Don't know about college soccer but here soccer fans (regardless of the level of the team and the socio-economic status of supporters) give the word rowdy a new meaning. There is always someone to curse at (usually the refs!). If there's noone then there those who can't hang on to the d*** ball on your own team. Not a good idea to take your mom to one. (Been there done that have not heard the end of it still and it has been 3 years!) Most of the time players/ refs on the pitch they don't even have the slightest idea what the crowd is yelling though it's so loud....

Did you happen to catch that incident with Milton Bradley of the LA Dodgers? I've seen that replay over and over again. Seems to me that he didn't do anything to warrant getting thrown out of the game, much less a suspension. Just words, no actions. If athletes want to stand up for themselves, it doesn't bother me one bit. But if it takes their minds off the game, the heckler sort of wins doesn't he?

Not really, I may post alot of BS on the board but I have never singled out individual VB players for heckling, nor have I ever insulted females in a questionable manner (except for bad decisions made in addressing Islandgirl).
