I respectfully beg to differ mumsie... Although definitely not to the extent of a soccer match, people always b*!ch and moan about calls in the Pyramid... There are some real bad refs out there... We definitely let 'em hear it! GO BEACH!!! The funniest thing about the fans screaming at referees about bad calls is that as often as not the fans are mostly clueless about the rules and wouldn't know a good or bad call if it bit em on the arse. Fans appear to have a tendency to scream at the referees for any calls that go against their team regardless of whether or not is was a good or bad call.

To get started, what do you think about these actions? "YOU stink!" during the serve. (Or whatever very loud from the stands just as the server is contacting the ball?) "You suck!" - NO Loud noise? Depends, although if it is just as they are contacting the ball, nah.

Go to a Purdue match and I'm the lone nut yelling for the ball handling error. Ball gets played and you hear this voice across the IAF, "That's two hits!" I don't know, maybe I'm right and everyone else is clueless.

I would like to know why "GauchoYoungin" started this thread. It certainly has taken on a life of it's own. So, have we been helpful, GauchoYoungin?

Well, I did start this thread for a reason. I am glad to see that it has taken off. I guess now I can get more into the reason.
7th Woman was pseudo-correct. This does have to do with the person getting kicked out of a game at UCSB, but it wasn't the Pacific game, it was the CSUN game. That person was me. I am a third year at UCSB and love athletics. I am actually going for a Sports Psych degree. I know that you can get into players heads sometimes in order to help your team, and I choose to do that, in a way that is civil comapared to most. But unfortunately, the Associate A.D. views my heckling otherwise.
According to him in a letter giving to me, I have, and I quote, been "officially banned from out Women's Volleyball games as of this day Oct. 4th, 2004." Just let that sink in for a second...
Ok, he cites that once in my freshman year I used obscenities and was kicked out for that which is true. Since then, while at an event, nothing obscene comes out of my mouth. I do occassionally make fun of players, but nothing that goes against the NCAA rules which were posted on this thread. This Saturday, the coach of CSUN and the setter told the referee that myself and other hecklers were being out of hand, which was easily and overstatement. The ref informed us we couldn't use first names or derogatory comments. Fine by me. We started using last names and one of the young ladies had the last name Moores. I would yell out Ms. Moores, and with my lisp it sounded like smores, the lovely camp fire treat. She went back to serve and I yelled "Smores have graham crackers." The ref turned around and had me escorted out. I swear on my life to all of you around the world that that was all I said. And that leads me to where I am today. I hope to appeal this and hope to be back in time by next weekend for the LBSU game.
For those on here who know me, I am that tall white guy who dressed as a pimp last year, I hope you know that what I do is far from obscene. I will admit I have gone overboard sometimes, but I do what I can to bite my tongue. All I hope is as a volleyball fan, who loves the sport, is that for all of you who do think this is an injustice, just keep me in your thoughts and prayers, because this does hurt, alot. Imagine if you were banned from volleyball and how would you feel about it? Thanks for you time reading this if you did.
Good Luck Gauchos against LMU. I'll be rooting for you...outside the dome.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Easily, the best post of the day. Congratulations, I award you SoBB's "Dumbass of the Day" award. You may share with all your poser-heckler buddies and their bimbos if you wish. Mad props to whatever ref singled you out and had you escorted out. Mad props to the Associate A.D. as well. You should go back and read your own post. You still haven't figured it out. Only thing you're good at is trying to game the system, get around the intent of the rules, and then whining/questioning why you have to suffer the consequences for your actions. EDIT: If I didn't know any better, I'd say you are a UCSB male student-athlete, since most of the poser-hecklers are of that ilk. Probably another mediocre player on Preston's squad or maybe Water Polo or Swimming. Which is probably why the Associate A.D. knew who you were, and where to send the letter telling you that you were banned from attending women's vball matches.

Dude, that sucks! They tried to kick me out of a Vandal event once. I wouldn't let them and they didn't have the power or nerve to actually remove me. What was I doing that was so bad? Standing up. Yep, you guessed it, in the "this student section stands" area. I've had coaches from opposing teams invite me to "step outside," I've had players offer me their IQ's, I've had coaches insist that because of my and my friends actions that this match would be forfeited, etc. etc. etc. What it all comes down to, is it was all in good fun (really was fun) and if you strike a nerve with some one, that is their OWN problem, not yours. I say keep going. The athletic department is not going to deal with a lawsuit which they could easily encounter if they had the "real" muscle of police escort you out. If the facility event people forcefully bring you out, that too is grounds for a lawsuit. You were right to leave after the referee commanded it. But, I would have focused my heckling on the coaches at the first point that they started complaining about us. If you're getting into the coaches head, they aren't focuses on the game as much: advantage home team. I dunno... I'm a stubborn arse ESPECIALLY when it comes to my volleyball!

You know, maybe if you spent more time rooting FOR the Gauchos when you were inside, instead of "rooting" against the other team, you wouldn't have been kicked out... I don't know if they were right to kick you out for the season, but from what you wrote, you certainly sound like an annoying jerk to me.

Idadork, For someone who admits that he heckles, you sure can't handle it when people lay into you on this forum. Tell you what, why don't you tell us the next time you are playing a pickup game someplace? Then we can all come over and heckle you and see how you like it. As for filing a lawsuit against the school or the event staff if you are forcibly removed, give me a f reakin' break. The judge will throw that out of court in about 2 seconds, and the only thing you'll get out of that is the bill from your lawyer. If you refuse to comply with the directives of event staff or host management, all they have to do is call law enforcement and they'll take over from there. Chances are if you are still being a dumbass and copping an attitude with LE, they'll just arrest you and haul your azz in. Then you can post bail or spend the night in jail, your choice.

GauchoYoungin --- Saw you being asked to leave and the staff member walking with you. We gave you a round of applause – Did not hear what you said to get ejected. You left with honor and did not make an issue of it – I felt sorry for the staff member he was laughing. Appeal you banning – at least for the LBSU match – I would suggest you wear a suit, tie, and a Brian mask – you would not have to say anything – they would throw you out before the match started. But the cheers would be worth it. ;D

A couple random thoughts:
1. As soon as they charge admission it is entertainment (while still sport, you could go watch the "sport" of volleyball anywhere) you are basically asking people to become attached to the team to the point that they are willing to pay to see them play. Some people will express this in different ways.
2. The administration should be responsible for this and should have a pretty defined set of rules/procedures... I mean how many years have they been hosting these games now?
3. If you're gonna heckle it should be all in good fun... heckling can be done while still singling out a player and not be overly derogatory. you know stuff like "air ball" in basketball or even volleyball (much rarer occasion here). "Nice Serve" when the opposing player serves it into the net etc... obviously aimed at one player (or at least their actions), but not a big deal.
Anyway, protest away... if you get back in then just tone it down a bit... Your never gonna be a good sports psychologist if you've been banned from sporting events.

I took a friend to the Cal-USC match last year, where USC won in 5. The Cal students were so raucous and annoying that my friend decided to root for USC even though she was a Cal grad. She hates fan interference and prefers polite manners and respectable decorum.
I personally didn't think the Cal students were that bad, although there was one guy I wanted to hit with a 2x4 for making lewd comments at April Ross.
