Sure wish I could have been there to see the team gut it out, fans set a new attendance record and the team complete a first-ever undefeated home season. Yay for two more home games next week!

More good news, possibly: Bump for Gophers in seed as a result of events in southern California this evening?

Great win, Gophers. Such, a "life in the B1G" match. MN already beat OSU on the road, OSU not having a great second half of the season, but, regardless, is still a very good team. Before the match I expected a MN 3 or 4 set win. But, OSU cam ready to play and Gophers not playing at their best (though, of course, OSU had something to do with that). Nice to see them fight back for the win. These matches help them just as much as a sweep of PSU come tournament time. Congrats to the B1G champs. No go beat Indiana (no guarantee) to win it outright.

Just back from the match after a stop for a celebratory beverage or two.
I thought it was nice of the Gophers to acknowledge the OSU seniors on senior night before the match started. It looked like it caught them off guard.
I was really impressed by Valeria Leon, the Buckeyes' libero. For most of the match, she was passing most of the court -- basically, looked like they had the other 2 players in a 3 person serve receive lined up on the sidelines, and she had the rest of the court. For the most part, her passing was excellent. You could see her moving to where the ball was going even as the Gopher servers were serving the ball.
Disappointing to lose both of the first two sets. They were up -- 24-22 maybe? -- in the first, but couldn't put the ball down. Fortunately, either the passing and setting improved or Minnesota decided to swing away, and it really helped the rest of the match. Wilhite, in particular, had a bunch of swings off high hands and tooling the block in sets 3 and 4. Nice to see her bounce back from a not so good match at Purdue with a much better effort here.
Hannah was terrific (again!) 20 kills and hit .500 -- she bailed them out a bunch of times when they needed a side out and/or momentum stopper.
I'm definitely not a fan of Geoff Carlston's overcoaching. Seems like every play, he's giving instructions, critiques, whatever, and then constantly subbing players in and out. Wasn't it John Wooden that said you coach in practice and let players play in games? I guess it works for them, but all of the gamesmanship -- waving the green card, then pulling it back, delaying delaying delaying -- gets really annoying. (And maybe that's the point). Interesting, though, that as he's trying to slow things down, his servers were crabbing at the ball kids to give them balls to serve faster. I guess when things are going well, they want to speed things up, but when they aren't they like to slow things down.
After the first two sets, I was thinking "here we go again..." So glad that they were able to put together 3 solid sets and clinch at least a tie for the B1G championship. Not sure what Hugh said at the break, but the passing improved, the hitting was more consistent, and the blocking was better. Subbing Maddie Beal in for SSS at times helped. Nice to have that as an option with Katie Schau in the back already. Speaking of -- nice job again by Katie: 17 digs on the night.
Would have been nice to win in a sweep, but a win's a win. Nice job Gophers!

I will take useless stats for 500 Alex. Ohio State is up 2-1 after 3 sets Rampage, has Leon played like she did tonight for the whole season and, if so, how come she doesn't get more people talking about her play? She was a special player tonight. I don't remember another libero coming into the Pav this year and performing like that.

sweet win tonight. Palms were sweaty for the first two sets! Loved the Sub decision front row for SSS. Wonder why Handley , at her height and being left handed, doesn't get in at pivotal moments. She can set and her height/lefty can be a huge attribute to a team. Regardless... The second team is a huge factor on the Gopher success! Way to better your team!! Kudos to the entire Gopher team on another match win!!

Looks like Gophers are not going to go undefeated at home this season. The way they've been playing lately, I'd be surprised if they make it past the 3rd round. This is too bogus to even comprehend....

This is too bogus to even comprehend.... This is what happens when you are posting during the match. After set two, it did not look promising. They had been so good this season closing out tight sets. To see them lose two tight sets at home was deflating, coupled with the recent loss at Purdue. I'm happy that they were able to change the momentum and take the match. I may have overracted.

Well that was at least a fun match to be at! Side note: one of the most entertaining things to me as an away fan, expecially a positive vocal one, is the random ass fans that wait til the end of e match to talk smack. Turn around and taunt you, make the "I can't hear you hand signal." Y'all were supposed to beat us handily, you are the conference champs. I'm just happy we took it to 5 and I would have been satisfied with taking a set. Just makes you shake your head. You said earlier that you might be the loudest one there. So you're a loud fan (according to you) of the opposing team in a college sports arena. You're surprised you got heckled? Not surprised... Just amused.

A tad inconsistent, but when she is on, like tonight, she is quite good. One of the more underrated liberos in the conference

I like this Minnesota team but dropping the first two sets spells disaster for me in the tournament. Being the come back kid is not the position you want to be in a regional final or final four match. I was surprised they dropped the first two especially at home. Its open season in the NCAAs and every team is the favorite.

Don't worry, we all have to experience the gamut of emotions that go along with being a fan - the thrill of the victory and the frustration of defeat.

In the current college atmosphere, we simply cannot tolerate microaggressions around us. Let us provide a safe space for opposing fans. I suggest a distant parking lot. We could even provide portapotties with the opposing team colors.
