Really hoping for a B1G championship this year, and the gophs are soooo close. Next a decent Indiana team that has had some good wins recently. Fingers are staying crossed. This team has a lot of resiliency that was definitely showing in the last two games.

Gophers did serve for the set several times in g2, but they were also down 21-24 (I believe). That was also a nice comeback. There WERE good things going on in the first two games. OSU was just playing the long points better. They covered a lot of blocks and made a lot of diving saves.
Once that stopped happening, and the Gophs started winning their share of the long rallies, they took over. Other than Sandbothe, OSU never was terminating quickly. (See their sideout %s.) They had to work for it. It became TOO much work as the match wore on, especially when Sandbothe stopped scoring too.
Minnesota wore them down, I think. But I never felt confident about the outcome, not like some earlier matches like against Wisconsin and Michigan where the opposition was playing well, but still not in control.

sweet win tonight. Palms were sweaty for the first two sets! Loved the Sub decision front row for SSS. Wonder why Handley , at her height and being left handed, doesn't get in at pivotal moments. She can set and her height/lefty can be a huge attribute to a team. Regardless... The second team is a huge factor on the Gopher success! Way to better your team!! Kudos to the entire Gopher team on another match win!! Handley was playing in g5s earlier in the year. I think the switch to Lohman opposite SSS (with Schau serving for her) took away that move. I thought they might serve for Paige in g5, but didn't -- and Paige had a good night serving. SSS and Santana continue to be their point scorers from the service line, but Wilhite, Schau and Paige all contributed tonight. I wonder if the boxscore helps me? Yep: SSS 21 serves Santana 23 serves Rosado 18 serves Schau 19 serves Wilhite 18 serves Paige 20 serves Much more balanced than it's been and 20 is a lot for the 6th server. OSU much more unbalanced: 23 for Mitchell and 20 for Leon and no one else more than 15. They were really going for their serves. 8 service errors is very low for their style.

Here's something I've never understood. In the boxscore, what the heck is considered an "assist attempt"? I can't imagine what 54 of 66 for Hughes, for instance, means.

Rampage, has Leon played like she did tonight for the whole season and, if so, how come she doesn't get more people talking about her play? She was a special player tonight. I don't remember another libero coming into the Pav this year and performing like that. She has played VERY well this season but has had some issues. A tad inconsistent, but when she is on, like tonight, she is quite good. One of the more underrated liberos in the conference I thought she was ok but not exceptional as a digger, but echoing what others have said, her passing was unbelievable. Even when "stealing" serves from other players and catching them at odd angles, she would lay the ball right into the setter's hands. One thing tOSU did really well on defense, too, was cover the tip. Gophers were tipping like Sinatra at the Copacobana and I don't recall even a single one of the tips hitting the floor.

I thought Santana served exceptionally well. She no longer rips it, but to keep the ball away from Leon, she was serving alot of cross-court towards the line. It's certainly easy on a serve like that to hit it wide, but she managed not to.
To tell the truth, I saw it but am still not sure how the Gophers not only won but managed to outscore Ohio State 65-41 after Ohio State went up 3-0 to start the third set. I mean, that's quite a beating from that point forward. I credit the Gophers defense. Look at Ohio State's hitting percentage after game 1. Well under .200 each game after the first.

Only 25 of Daly's 60 swings resulted in a kill or an attack error. That's got to be an exceptionally low percent for her. She just wasn't swinging away and I continue to think she's not able to jump as she usually can.

Blocked the snot out of them. Not just stuff blocks. They were controlling all of OSU's attacks. OSU could not terminate. Not quickly anyhow. That wears you down.
Like I said, they never hit 60% for sideout percentage, not even in g1 where they only had 1 hitting error.

She just wasn't swinging away and I continue to think she's not able to jump as she usually can. She had that one stretch where she was blocked 2x in a row and made a couple of bad errors from the back row on awkward attempts (and kept MANY MORE awkward attempts in play). I thought she played well. Over 20 digs again, too. It didn't seem like 60 swings. I think that's inflated by all of the down balls she had to put over. It felt like the offense was being spread around to me, although Paige still doesn't get set much.

Minnesota has shown all season that they have the strength and stamina to dominate late in matches. This bodes well if they go up against USC. Bricio is clearly an incredible player, but I think she tires slightly late in matches, and becomes easier to block. "Easier" is a relative term, because Samantha can hit well from any point on the court, placing the ball where she wants. And her serves are incredibly consistent.
In my opinion, the top 4 in the Big 10 are Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Penn State, in that order. I'm basing that on how they're playing now.
In the tournament, only Washington matches up defensively with Nebraska and Washington, in size and dominance. Wisconsin always has the intangible of Carlini. Like Hancock, a team plays above their level when she's on the court. Not sure if Santana is that same type of leader, but she's close. Of course, you don't need to be that leader when you have the Tapp sisters. Rosado is the one person I would not be totally confident about if I were Minnesota. You can't compare her to Morley of Wisconsin or Wittingham of USC.

Here I am - late to the party again. Most has already been said.
Ohio State played with a lot of fire. The surprise star of their team was the libero. tOSU also seemed to have a better game plan, at least for the serve/recieve game. Did anyone else notice that they had a different receive configuration for different servers. They really scouted out service well. Carlson is entertaining - a little too entertaining at times, but he is obviously a good coach doing everything he can for a team.
Minnesota, IMO outplayed them, keeping the game close when they were struggling with some bad passes and then taking over when they figured out how to pass the tough serves better. Hannah had a great night. Sarah stepped up again - if she can keep this up, we are in for the long hall. Since Sarah was opposite tOSU setter, it was smart to use her more. Dolly had the better blockers and she was getting set out of system for the most part the first two sets. She did well but that can't help her hitting percentage. What a great season. Hugh and coaching team worked with our players all match to help them win. I will be watching Saturday to see if they can secure the title.

Rosado is the one person I would not be totally confident about if I were Minnesota. You can't compare her to Morley of Wisconsin or Wittingham of USC. Morey: 4.5 dps Wittingham: 4.79 dps Rosado: 4.15 dps Rosado has had a few off matches lately, but all in all she has proven to be capable of hanging with the big dogs. Id say Wittingham and Morey are more consistent, but opponenets better watch out if Rosado is on her game

The Gophers will not be able to sleepwalk their way through this one.
