Logan Tom: Does it all. Love her work ethic. She's a badass. Others: Sheilla: no one goes around a block like she does. Watching her in her prime was a treat. Given her size (or lack thereof), she was unbelievable. Gioli: She always looked like a pissed off Italian grandma out there and ran the slide better than anyone in the world. (not at all a comment on the quality of her looks but on her stature and facial expressions). Sokolova/Shashkova/Kilic/am I missing any?: Big, physical all-around player. Stay tuned. Sokolova is engaged to an Italian. She would start for Italy. I would take her over DelCore or the Italian libero they had at the qualifier.

Lauren Van Orden. Her setting and decision making was spot on in UCLA's run. Frankly, I would have given her MOP over Kidder

They say you always remember your first love. I became a fan about 12 years ago, going from 0-60 in no time. The Gophers had a lot of talented players then. Very talented. But there is talent and then there is Paula Gentil. I started going to matches just to see her play. I swear if you did DNA testing on her, you'd find that some ancestor of hers had mated with an ocelot or a jaguar or some other jungle cat, so quick was that girl. No one was more responsible for bringing me into the fold.

Started watching in earnest in MN awhile back. Lauren Gibbemeyer has a fire not too many have. Easily one of my favorite matches of all time. What an epic senior night And if you can look beyond Gibby's 25 kills, you will see my favorite player Tori Dixon putting up some great passes in the back row while she served. Two of the reason's why these girls are on the national team.

Wow! Gibbemeyer took over. Awesome match from her, the Gophers and Nittany! Fun to watch. Thanks for the post!

I didn't start watching women's volleyball until 2010. I'm a PSU fan.
For me, who else could it be?

Sokolova all around, could do it all. Tom all around, best sour puss. Kun Feng, best setter of al time. Effortless. Gioli - amazing slide hitter. Good blocker Scott - best USA middle of al time. Hooker, maybe best opposite to play the game? Fabi, incredible Libero.
That would be one hell of a team.
Now go a create a better one.

MY Favorite's not what I think are the best players
FLO - never without a smile, ringleader of the 80-84 teams MISTY - so many different skills, knows the game inside and out KRISTEN CARPENTER - has anyone accomplished so much against the odds KELE EVELAND - GEORGIA TECH, another player just so much fun to watch
so many many more that made the game fun to watch, Tee Williams, Natalie Williams, Destinee, Alisha Glass at PSU, hvae been very lucky to watch such entertaining players over the years. Never saw Mary Jo Peppler in college but loved to watch her toy with the opposition at Opens and with National teams.

Being fairly new to college V-ball (~4 years), my memories do not extend very far back. So for me, it is without a doubt Lauren Carlini. The confidence, the fire and intensity and the amount of skill she has without appearing to even try is absolutely amazing. I also hear a lot of little girls saying that they want to be like Lauren when they get older. So in addition to her skills, she is also an ambassador to the a new generation of players (at least in Wisconsin) The thread asked for a player, not a god. HA HA HA...

I thought she deserved Final Four MOP as a sophomore when she set a near flawless match against Texas and thoroughly outplayed NPOY Lloyd in the title game. She might be the shortest top 10 senior ace ever at just 5-6, I wish we were able to see more of her at Penn State. Oh well. At least she made her time count as a starter.
