Agree with the increasing number of quality Midwest teams, and great showings from other regions' teams as well. Both Chicago and St. Louis qualifiers are fielding signifant number of teams, makes me wonder if it is time to give each more bids. USAV rules allow for it; maybe time to reward the Great Lakes and Gateway regions for their quality tournaments?

On the other hand, with only one bid tournament left, who are the contenders for at large bids in 16s? Isn't there two left? York and Richmond? Yes, Harrisburg and Richmond still have bids. Harrisburg just does not give bids at 17 & 18.

18's Finishes
It was an interesting tourney and for sure a hearty congrats goes out to Pace for the Tourney win. Solid team that grinds hard and spreads the ball well.
With just East Coast Championships left, if Pace, Ocean Bay, NVVA or Eden are fortunate to grab the title there that should secure a top 4 seed for Nationals for one of them as that would be their 2nd Qualfiers wins. Nobody in the country would have that. Maybe even higher for Pace or Eden as they would be the only teams to finish 5th or higher in 3 or 4 Qualifiers. Western New York is doing alright.
The tourney was run smoothly, very nice facility, parking was fine and movement around the city easy. Maybe with so many teams out there a 18 Open and 18 club division might be something to look at in the future. (I can see more attending next year. )
The boys love playing on the Snap Courts provided by NetLynx......and their backs and knees do too. Bigger blocks with built in shock absorbers.....way better than sport courts imo.

The 16s division was incredibly deep. Hats off to Adversity for the win, but I think that was the luck of the draw for them. Didn't have to play against LIVBC in second round. Didn't play teams like Ultimate or Bounce who they struggle against. It was said earlier I think 14 or 15 of the teams could have won that tournament with the right match ups. Either way I think a Midwest team can do well at Nationals, but I still think the Cali teams and Outrigger from Hawaii are a notch above.

Agree with the increasing number of quality Midwest teams, and great showings from other regions' teams as well. USAV rules allow for it; maybe time to reward the Great Lakes and Gateway regions for their quality tournaments? Completely agree. If you remember before the Chicago tournament replaced the Milwaukee and Chicago tournaments the bid allocations were as follows: St. Louis 4 bids, Milwaukee 4 bids, Chicago 3 bids = 11 total bids for midwest tournaments. I don't ever remember any out of region teams competing at St Louis; Milwaukee always had a couple out of region teams (specifically I can remember Balboa Bay, Pace, Eden, but that's about it); and Chicago rarely had more than 1 or 2 out of midwest region teams. Now the midwest is probably more powerful than it was just 5 or 10 years ago (there are at least more than 3-4 national quality Chicago teams, 1 Milwaukee, 1 STL, like it used to be). However, there are only 9 bids allocated to midwest tournaments when teams from Cali, Hawaii, Canada, Florida, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, New York, Puerto Rico, etc. are all coming to both tournaments. Seems like way too many bids are being allocated to the East Coast, especially considering Midwest teams don't go out there at all. 4 bid tournaments worth 12 bids seems pretty unfair considering the Midwest has 2 bid tournaments worth 9 bids.

Looking at the bracket, there were a bunch of upsets at the 18s level. What happened to all the top teams?

It seems like you already gave a rebuttal to your last argument on your own. As we are trying to grow the game and the geography of the United states population is predominantly on the east coast it is indeed logical. The Midwest boys vb encompasses basically Illinois, Wisconsin, western Ohio and northern Missouri. The 3+ hour drive from Chicago to St. Louis is pretty darn favorable. The East Coast encompasses programs on the rise from Georgia, Maryland, and Mass/Connecticut. On top of this it stretches from Puerto Rico, Florida, Virginia,NJ, Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio,New York and you could include Ontario and Ottawa in the mix. That is a large geographic area which creates a need for more. Wisconsin teams have come to Richmond as I remember.

I am wondering the same thing Pace played extremely well the entire tournament. Their outsides and middles looked really strong, accompanied by a solid libero with excellent digging abilities and a setter who can distribute the ball well. Also blocked the ball very well. Very deserving of the championship win. Maybe would have been a different story if Mizuno was there, but why even speculate? Congrats to Pace on a great tourney!

If it's about getting the best teams into JOs, then the system isn't doing a good job.
