Completely agree. If you remember before the Chicago tournament replaced the Milwaukee and Chicago tournaments the bid allocations were as follows: St. Louis 4 bids, Milwaukee 4 bids, Chicago 3 bids = 11 total bids for midwest tournaments. I don't ever remember any out of region teams competing at St Louis; Milwaukee always had a couple out of region teams (specifically I can remember Balboa Bay, Pace, Eden, but that's about it); and Chicago rarely had more than 1 or 2 out of midwest region teams. Now the midwest is probably more powerful than it was just 5 or 10 years ago (there are at least more than 3-4 national quality Chicago teams, 1 Milwaukee, 1 STL, like it used to be). However, there are only 9 bids allocated to midwest tournaments when teams from Cali, Hawaii, Canada, Florida, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, New York, Puerto Rico, etc. are all coming to both tournaments. Seems like way too many bids are being allocated to the East Coast, especially considering Midwest teams don't go out there at all. 4 bid tournaments worth 12 bids seems pretty unfair considering the Midwest has 2 bid tournaments worth 9 bids. Chicago and Milwaukee both used to be 3 bids each, so there were still 9 bids coming from the Midwest qualifiers, they were just separated into 3 separate qualifiers instead of 2. No, what I stated was correct. 4 bids in STL, 4 bids in Milwaukee, 3 bids in Chicago. edit: after checking middlehitter.com it looks to have change after 2009. I was referring to 2009 and before, I suppose you're referring to 2010 and on.

Both Chicago and St. Louis qualifiers are fielding signifant number of teams, makes me wonder if it is time to give each more bids. USAV rules allow for it; maybe time to reward the Great Lakes and Gateway regions for their quality tournaments? Completely agree. It seems like you already gave a rebuttal to your last argument on your own. As we are trying to grow the game and the geography of the United states population is predominantly on the east coast it is indeed logical. The Midwest boys vb encompasses basically Illinois, Wisconsin, western Ohio and northern Missouri. The 3+ hour drive from Chicago to St. Louis is pretty darn favorable. The East Coast encompasses programs on the rise from Georgia, Maryland, and Mass/Connecticut. On top of this it stretches from Puerto Rico, Florida, Virginia,NJ, Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio,New York and you could include Ontario and Ottawa in the mix. That is a large geographic area which creates a need for more. Wisconsin teams have come to Richmond as I remember. The bid system is pretty solid at this time. Last year all the good teams went to Cali. and stole bids. They came back and played MLK weekend and then had to make a choice. The Midwest teams have more opportunities or as much as the East Coast. Hey, go to STL., Penn State or Florida for a bid. Only a few Midwest take the plunge and go East. Now that the Can Am is moving into a 20 court facility it will be a much better event for the big clubs. The Canadian teams that come down make it a very strong event. Adversity, Spri and Northshore Milwaukee all use to come out. I think it is a bad choice if you want "Big seeding points to not show up somewhere in the East. I think the East Coast just made a statement in STL. Sure teams were missing a player or 2 because of basketball but this weekend for many teams ends their head to head competitions for National seeding. Harrisburg is a solid event for teams from the Midwest to make a statement. I get that high school starts the next week. It is too bad that only the Wisconsin teams can come to Richmond. That has become a great event with Canadian, Puerto Rico, Colorado, Florida, and the usual suspects from the East Coast. Congrat's to Bay to Bay for making a great decision coming to the Midwest. It helped their 18's in their bid/seeding position. One last thought, the East Coast goes to all events, the Midwest less and the Cali. teams the least. It has an effect on your game, confidence, and psyche. Good luck to all the rest of the way.

This weekend was the first time watching my step son and his team play... not what I was expecting. Although the boys can swing hard, they just cannot find a way to come out on top. We don't play as a team, but this will come with more practice. I will do more research on the teams at my son's age, but at this point, I believe we are the most talented team in the country, it just has not showed in the national qualifiers. You got it all wrong, they suck.

I found video of the unworldly Southport 16s. Looks like they will be an Olympic contender this summer. Although they lost to Outrigger 25-15 25-15 I have no doubt they could beat the Brazilian national team.

I think chemistryoverchemicals brought forth a good point. Southport deserves more credit than they receive. Their match with Outrigger, losing by only 10 points in both games, truly reflects their ability to hang tight with top teams. Although they lack many aspects of a winning team, Southport brings sturdy competition wherever they go.

I'm tired of people always posting like they are gods of volleyball. Well news flash they are horrible and don't stand a chance at winning. It's a complete joke and annoying, my grandparents would do better than them.
