As said, lots of identity issues for everyone except Big Red. Also a few top 20 teams showing a lack of depth at this point in the season. I wouldn't get too excited about any loss or any win at this point (*Joe Sagula should have a big smile at least) I think the jury is still out on Nebraska! They weren't too impressive on an eager Arkansas team. Me thinks New Mexico is chomping their lips in that high altitude! GO HUSKERS I don't know what jury you interviewed, but someone's being very picky. While an unimpressive record, Arkansas had taken #4 Kansas to 5 last weekend in Lawrence. The jury is still out, smh.

If we look at wins and losses - a case could be made that the Big 12 is off to a great start and is reasonably close to the B1G and PAC. The RPI Futures has 6 of the 9 Big 12 teams in the Top 25. However, this appears to be an RPI mirage. They are just 2-5 against the B1G - which doesn't mean too much given the small sample size. But a closer examination of the Big 12 schedule shows they just don't play as tough a non conference schedule as the top conferences and are better at 'gaming' the RPI. And as pretty much every year - it appears that only Texas is really a NC contender out of the Big 12.
The ACC is a total mess outside of North Carolina. The SEC is what it usually is, Florida is good and a bunch of teams that do reasonably well and get an RPI boost that makes them look better than they probably really are. The WCC is intriguing this year with what likes 3 really good teams, but the conference doesn't look any better than the past.
Then you look at who is still dominating the recruiting.
As much as I would like to see more parity in the game, I just don't see an indication that this is happening and certainly it is not happening as fast as people may think. The B1G and PAC are still the overwhelming dominate volleyball conferences by a long measure.

Historical backdrop: I've been on this board for over 13 years and being a Stanford grad have been on the defensive for at least 10 of those years by threads created by fans of East of the Mississippi River dominated conferences about how overrated were conferences on the western side of the mighty Missipp. Payback, (R) and others. Take away the Big 12 runaway interloper, Nebraska, the Big 10 would be even further behind the Pac 12 and WCC than it is unexpectedly already. Is Minnesota, the Big 10's seemingly other high quality team (which earlier lost 3-0 to and at Stanford) the only B1G worthy of a top 20 ranking? Sheesh!! Stanford looked good, hosting Minnesota, but the score was 3-1

It will be the tallest of order -- but I need PSU to beat Purdue twice to savage MY year

Wow! Volleytalk gets a mention in the Stanford post-match web write-up: This is shocking behavior. Why would a Division I coach ever let their players take out their phones DURING a match (even if it was the intermission). Dunning should be fired.

I think the Big Ten should lose a couple top 25 slots with Ohio State's loss to Missouri State and Illinois's loss to Oregon. Should leave them with 6 teams in. Pac should have 5 with Oregon and WSU sitting on the fence looking in. But still got a few games this weekend so still room for surprises.

The B1G is the deepest conference, and has three top 10 teams, and several more in the next 10. They will most likely have 2 schools hosting regionals come December. Jury is still out on the PAC. Will be fortunate to have one school hosting a regional in December.

Purdue 3, Washington State 1 Wisconsin 3, University of Arizona 0 Stanford 3, Minnesota 1 Iowa 3, Arizona State 0 Nebraska 3, Oregon State 0 Stanford 3, Illinois 2 Colorado 3, Penn State 2 Stanford 3, Penn State 0 Colorado 3, Illinois 2 Oregon 3, Illinois 0 Purdue 3, Stanford 2 Maryland vs USC Maryland vs Washington

I, for one, stopped reading, dead, at the supposed Dunning quote, so never got to the sarcasm give-away ("Manila Folders"). It did strike me that players checking their phones during the break, let alone coaches encouraging them to do it, would be exceedingly inappropriate.
It is interesting that the real article is lacking any quote from Dunning...

Can't we just re-post last years "pac is over-rated" thread? And the year prior to that, "the big10 sucks" thread..
Those inclined can just re-read all that bs, so we don't have to suffer through more of this.
