You know I rolled my eyes when I first saw this thread, I'm not going to lie. However, I've never been one to dwell on a loss because there is always next year. (Unless it's Husker Men's basketball. Then I dwell. A lot.) So, without further ado. HuskerGeek's Way To Early and Totally Incorrect Take on the 2017 Nebraska Cornhusker Volleyball team:Departing Seniors: Kadie Rolfzen, Amber Rolfzen, Justine Wong-Orantes, and Andie Malloy. Farewell and good luck ladies. Returners at the moment-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seniors Juniors Sophomores Freshmen ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Incoming RecruitsName | Height | Position | SA Ranking | Jazz Sweet | 6'3" | Right Side | 12 | Chesney McClellan | 6'4" | Middle Blocker | 26 | Anezka Szabo | 6'3" | Right Side | 34 | Sami Slaughter | 6'1" | Outside Hitter | NR | Hayley Densberger | 5'9" | DS/L | NR |
Huskers.com Signing Day Press Release---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quick Takes That Will Inevitably Be Completely Wrong But Why Not
There's no doubt the losses are going to hurt. Nebraska is losing four starters and three of them were All-Americans this year. 10 All-America selections between them if I'm not mistaken. That's going to hurt, there's no doubt. However, this is still Nebraska Volleyball and there is still plenty of talent on the roster. A lot of young talent, but talent none the less. My first completely uneducated question looking at the roster is: Does one of the middles move outside? My second completely uneducated question is: Or will Boender or Albrecht secure the second outside spot. My assumption is that barring injury Briana and Mikaela will not be beat out for a spot. They're going to be on the floor. So, who comes out of the fray? <TO BE CONTINUED WHEN I'M NOT FALLING ASLEEP> Will we get a battle of the Hunters at setter or will Atherton sit another year waiting for her head to head match up with incoming commit 2018 recruit Nicklin Hames? I think the latter is ferociously more likely. Will anyone transfer out? Will anyone decommit? Will any BTN StudentU announcers correctly pronounce Anezka Szabo? Who knows? Who can say? MAYBE WE LIVE IN A GIANT-TINY MARBLE? FIND OUT NEXT TIME. SAME CORN TIME. SAME CORN CHANNEL.

With Albrecht, Townsend, and Maloney back, the Huskers should still be solid in the backrow.
I see next years squad as another Top 10 team with the potential for a deep run in the tournament.
What's the word on Sweet, McClellan, and Szabo? I'd guess Sweet would be a favorite to start at RS. Can McClellan start over Strivins?
S: Hunter OH1: Foecke OH2: Boender or Albrecht? Szabo potentially? RS: Sweet MB1: Holman MB2: Strivins or McClellan? L: Maloney
DS: Townsend and Albrecht

I would not be surprised to see a 6-2 next year. GBR.

Smith and Reeves just earned mid-season scholarship. Would those be the scholarships from the Rolfzen's since they started a semester early?

Plenty of talent.
Even though Texas and Nebraska will most likely not face off in the VERT challenge in Gainesville, I wonder if there will be a non-conference match in either Lincoln or Austin.

If Jazz Sweet is going to start at RS, someone's going to need to teach her how to jump between now and August.

Thought....did anyone see Holman smoke that hit from the right in the tourney....I think John needs to think about making a move with her apposite Foecke...imagine that vertical with an approach and angles.

Last night, Cook said that the goal is to make Foecke a 6 rotation player now. Do you guys see it happening next season?

The loss of Molly Haggarty in that scholarship spot is still gonna hurt the Huskers next year if there isn't a transfer outside hitter that is at an elite level. Malloy was thought to have been that one year bandaid and overall just wasn't. If Boender or Albrect were capable of playing that O2 spot in Cook's mind they would've gotten more court time when Malloy was struggling. Without Andie the Huskers would not have made the final four so I do not diminish her worth. Has anyone thought of Albrecht at L and leaving Kenzie at DS? Obviously NO one is gonna replace JWO but there were often times when I felt that Anni was a much more solid passer/defender than Kenzie was. Which kid needs to be on the court all the time? Who can give us more info on the incoming recruits other than their names, positions and heights?
