Oldmanred - it's nice to read an objective Husker fan, not many people that are big fans of their hometown team are like this! ( and oldmanred is a huge Husker fan)!!!

The teams with the most returning talent are Michigan State and Penn State. I really think MSU has a chance to win the BIG next season. They have a great set of seniors. Autumn Bailey is a AA talent 6 rotation OH. Alyssa Garvelink is an beast in the middle. Minarick is a top 3 setter in the BIG, Kranda and Toliver are effective hitters and 2 of the top servers. If they get good libero play their chances are as good as anyone's. MSU also as a very solid recruiting class with Big 10 quality pin talent coming off the bench.

I'd probably take Tashima over her too. Maybe in the PAC, but the BIG is setter central. If MSU wants to have success this is about the last year they'll have a chance for a while but they just haven't shown the ability to play a consistently high level despite the talent they've had recently (Wicinski, Williams, Reinig)

A 2017 MSU win at Florida should boost Spartan confidence heading into their 2017 conference schedule, which begins with: -at Wisconsin -at Minnesota -Maryland -Ohio State -at Nebraska -Wisconsin -at Penn State At this point, we will know if MSU is a 2017 BIG title contender. I hope so...the conference needs some 'shake up' (my opinion). The Spartans seemed to play better on the road last season than they did at home. They were hammered by Florida in that pre-season match and turned in a disappointing performance against Arizona in the tourney. This is the year Cathy George needs to deliver, she has an experienced roster filled with top talent. They absolutely should challenge Penn State for the title.

Big 10 is too up and down within conference to predict every teams standing....I'm gonna with the top half, and tourney teams 1- PSU 2- Wisconsin 3- Nebraska 4- Purdue 5- MSU 6- Minnesota 7- MIchigan I could also see Illinois, Maryland, and OSU in serious tourney talks this year. No. Stick to the PAC 12

And there is no way I would take Tashima over any of those three (and three or four others in the B1G...) Minarick is a talented setter with a talented supporting cast, I would attribute the continuous underperforming to the coaching, not the talent.

As mentioned, I would put Cathy George on the hot seat this year. If she does not perform with this crew then that indicates a problem. I have no idea however if anyone at charge in MSU is concerned.

Have not heard anything about Poulter. There was some chatter about her leaving when Illinois had their coaching change. I assume she has decided to stay the course. Good for her, I like kids who fulfill their commitments. She is to me the most talented setter in the BIG. I really hope she gets to show the whole arsenal this season. Illinois was wasting Poulter under Hambly IMO.

From my understanding everyone at MSU, including the volleyball program not just the AD, are incredibly complacent with the team's performance.

I disagree. This will be the third consecutive year that George is coaching a season in which half of her staff is brand new to coaching in the Big Ten. Had to replace two associate head coaches in Carney (30-year veteran) and Gawlik (10+ year veteran). Training your staff every year in addition to training your team and athletes is incredibly difficult and important to consider. 2017: new assistant Ortiz, new volunteer Jankowski (Wenger leaves to be a D1 head coach, Owen leaves to be a D1 assistant) 2016: new assistant Wenger, new volunteer Owen (Gawlik leaves to be a D1 head coach, Licht leaves volleyball) 2015: new assistant Kelsay, new volunteer Licht (Carney & Stone retire) With that said, I think Michigan State is primed for a great year, provided everyone stays healthy.

PSU is my pick to win the B10. But if NE can take the first game of the B10 Season against them, I think that NE might be able to catch PSU by seasons end. PSU should get off to a great start by having 6 of their first 8 games at home.
*An expansion of vup's original player listing: Nebraska Key returnees: Hunter (S), Maloney (L), Holman (M), Stivrins (M), Foecke (OH), Albrecht (OH) / Boender (OH), Townsend (DS), Atherton (S) Key players lost: Wong-Orantes (L), A. Rolfzen (M), Malloy (OH), K. Rolfzen (OP) Incoming recruits: Densberger (DS), McClellan (M), Slaughter (OH), Sweet (OP), Szabo (OP) 5th Year graduate player: Havers (MB)
Sweet: Because of her playing experience; she will probably be the starter at OP, and the only frosh seeing major playing time. Stivrins: Could have been a starter last season, but whom would Coach Cook replace - A. Rolfzen or B. Holman? / or he could move A. Rolfzen back to OP, and K. Rolfzen back to OH. But anyways; Coach Cook decided on the red shirt.
*Quite a lot of experience returning for NE including the 5 Seniors: Hunter, Holman, Albrecht, Townsend, and Havers.
