It might be good for USC to lose a match before the play offs.

A loss sometimes can be good for the motivation factor, but Sarah and Kelly dropping a flight yesterday is probably just as good. Superman (super women) lost a little blood, but they are still queens of the hill. No excuses about the conditions of the match as both teams played in the same arena. Because of the level of experienced players entering NCAA Beach Volleyball, I doubt their record will be beaten anytime soon. Didn't say never will, all records are broken, it simply may take some time for another pair to be so dominant.

Two things are amazing: First, how quickly the season has passed. Secondly, the lack of televised matches. The Pac12 Network would rather show reruns of lacrosse than a beach match.

I am not super knowledgeable on the topic of beach volleyball, but I do enjoy it. So for you pro's out there, why are Sarah and Kelly having so many close sets this season? They're winning, which is great, but the level of competition is generally no where near what they face in the circuit. I get it that other teams are really up to play them, but has something changed in their style of play? I noticed those circle things on Kelly's shoulder recently, so is she injured? Thanks for some insight.

It was being discussed in another thread that Kelly was not performing to her previous levels this season and someone mentioned that she was injured.
KP kinda owned her at the net yesterday. If you breakdown the stats it is unforced errors and serving errors that is dragging her game down and her blocking is no where near to her previous levels.
She struggles in the wind, yesterday in the second set the wind came up and gave her fits. Down 10-4 early it seemed her partner had to bail her out again.
Their winning streak started with a defeat in the wind two years ago and ended in another Gail storm.
It is interesting that on windy days their competitors serve SH hoping for a shank set by KC to keep Hughes from siding out. Worked for StMary but not for Stanford.

Great points, thanks for the knowledge. On another note, I was very impressed with the pairing of Joy and Abril in the Stanford match, they really seemed to play well. Joy will be a #1 soon, she is very talented, and Abril is no slouch either. I know USC has some super European player coming in next year, but I wouldn't be surprised to see these two as the #1 pair if they spend the off season together.

I'm not sure if the competition isn't quite as tough or what it is, but Joy and Abril play so well together. I guess we'll find out when then Trojans play UCLA this weekend. That should be a solid match. A question for someone who's more knowledgeable than I am: Can you explain the hand signals the defensive pairs give? Wouldn't court position be determined by the person receiving the serve? Puzzles me,but I'm a fairly simple guy. Thanks

Have any of the previous USC beach seniors gone on to play pro beach? Zoe from last year? anyone? Besides Kelly and Sarah, who will go pro this year? How do players line up sponsors?

All my talk about the Joy and Abril pair being such a strong partnership took a hit yesterday when UCLA took them out in 2 sets. Can't believe the match between the #1 and #2 team wasn't televised, but I can't do anything about that. The Bruins played well, but USC played a little better. Next week in AZ should be interesting, and some very competitive matches will be on tap. SC seems to be just a little ahead of everyone else, but its close. A few unlucky hits and the match could turn quickly. Will USC take the Pac12 title, or will the Bruins be just ticked off enough to take the title away from them?

Surprised that USC didn't stream it for free. They've been good about doing that in the past.
UCLA streamed the matches on 1 and 3 on their facebook.
