Wow, this draw is worse than the old AVCA model. Plus USC and Pepperdine comprise a third of the pairs.
As I said on another thread, this is not going to help convince NCAA to add a pairs event.
Like the idea to just have it just be a USAV qualifier.

Troll hunter, curious as to why you are saying you think the draw is worse than the old AVCA model.

Troll hunter, curious as to why you are saying you think the draw is worse than the old AVCA model. Old model had all #1 pairs and most #2's from all top schools. This does not have all top schools nor all top pairs from those schools represented. Old model only took #1 or #2 pairs from schools. This takes #4 and I think #5 pairs. I could continue but not gonna waste my time

What about the twins from UCLA? One was hurt in the PAC-12 Championship, I am not sure if her status. Not eligible to play on account of being Canadian. Also, lefty McNamara's shoulder is jacked up. It was painful to watch her try and play during the Pac 12 championships. That's right, I forgot they were Canadian. Which also explains why Arellano/Follete from ASU are missing.

Also, some good players left out of the mix (e.g. Plummer). I was hoping Plummer & Gray might be in, too. Several weeks left before Stanford's Spring quarter ends. (Stanford's 2s not eligible because Ivana Vanjak is not a citizen, though I didn't really expect them to be invited.) Of course, Plummer (& ?) have already qualified some other international event through USAV. Calling it a "Collegiate Beach Pairs Championship" is a little misleading when its real purpose is to serve as a USAV qualifier. It's like it's trying to be two different things at once. I tend to agree that it is trying to be two different t things. Why not just have an open USAV tryout (pairs championship) for collegiate athletes? You could have some auto invites and then at large pairings based on collegiate records. Or just have a collegiate pairs championship (international players welcome) and then USAV can invite whoever they choose from there to tryout? But then again isn't that what most people want is an NCAA pairs championship (similar to what the PAC 12 hosted)? lol

maybe the international girls could gather at Manhattan Beach and play their own tournament, just for grins

Still trying to wrap my head around the "Collegiate Pairs Championship", when it is not. Damn near false advertisement. Many teams with 1 (or 2) top players not eligible. Other teams sending in the cavalry. If you can't play the ones for your school, why are you in a pairs championship? Your best hope is that you are not in a pool with your actual ones? Just praying for the right seed? Didn't realize exactly how bad the timing was (with graduations, etc) I'm not in school.. Hopefully the final 8 or so are legit, no injury (or team orders, lol) forfeits, etc.. Lots of players not even in the USAV database. They can play, but not a non-citizen? Assume these enter with zero points? Just grab a team out of the hat with all the zeros at seeding time? Hope you are not in a pool with USC 1? IDK.... lots of reservations/questions..

Here's a random question: If these trials are for the World University Games and some NORCECA events... is that something Claes/Hughes are even interested in playing?

You are leaving off the USAV part of the title. I see nothing wrong with a USA only event. In fact, I'd like to see less NON USA players getting scholarships (State schools), in every sport. (maybe this isn't the place for that comment, but what eves)

The WUG's, maybe not - I don't know if they'll even be eligible to compete - but playing some Norceca's isn't a bad idea. Points is points. But assuming Claes/Hughes win this event and decline to enter any of the upcoming tournaments, USAV can just go down the list in order of finish to come up with an entries. Which is one of their goals for this tournament - to create a pool of U-23 etc pairs they can choose from.

When is this and will there be any televising or streaming? 11-13th, Hermosa. The only broadcast I'm aware of are the finals on NBCSN the 13th.
