Since this event is run by the USAV in May, I have some questions: Only a teams ones? It would appear if you can't play the ones at your school, no invite? When AVCA ran the pairs, it was ones. Have to be a US citizen, (USAV), so no UCLA (Canada), no FIU (Italy), no GCU (Slovenia), etc? ? Anyone with answers?

Yeah, U.S. only - USAV is using it as a national team qualifier event for the World University Games and some NORCECA events.
I don't believe it is limited to #1's, but last I heard they were still tweaking the format.

All those ones will be out then.. If USAV is in fact using this as qualifier.

A LOT of good pairs left out if US citizenship is a requirement.

Is this a direction towards college also having a pairs championships along with the team? Haven't been keeping up with college.

As a collegiate sport, it seems unfair to leave teams with an international player(s) out of the competition. Perhaps it shouldn't be associated with "collegiate" and just called a USAV qualifier? Or, pairs with international players could compete but not be eligible to qualify for the USAV?
In some cases, this could hurt (schools with) international players being recruited. Schools who want to compete at this competition (for the prestige or whatever) may want to pair USA only pairs together (leaving out the International players) even for regular season play (so that they could do better in the pairs tournament).
The trend seems to be more and more international players are being recruited to play in the NCAA (whether you agree with the practice or not - this is a different discussion).
Hopefully, if a pairs tournament is added to NCAA it is a true "collegiate" competition and is fair to all players playing NCAA.

If USAV is marketing this tournament as a collegiate Beach Pairs, I can't imagine it would limit it to USA citizenship, otherwise they need to open it up to any collegiate Beach Player, whether they play in college or not.

USA players only, confirmed...I totally agree, if you put the word "collegiate" in the title of the event all "collegiate" players should be eligible. The only pair I KNOW is confirmed is the Witt twins (U of Arizona). I'm guessing next year a pairs competition for everyone will be implemented by someone:AVCA, NCAA, USA Vball..

Sandyfan thanks for the May 3rd update.
trek4sa The website states the 8 NCAA Tourney teams will each have a team represented, assume UCLA will send their 2's. I am hearing girls are being notified by the USAV thru their College coaches (a weird thing, imo), yesterday and today (to make travel arrangements).
