That's rather sad... thought it was just AVP contract differences. This year, the best place for an American team on the international circuit was a 2nd place (not counting Betsi Flint and Kelley Larsen in the 2 star events). The split of Kerri and April was the end of a really strong American team that other international teams would fear. Was their friendship on social media just a lie?? I always believed it was more an Just AVP contract differences. April & Kerri are just two completely different beasts with two very different personalities. People talk about how different Misty & Kerri were. I wasnt always roses & sunshine for Kerri & Misty either. They were extremely close to parting ways in 2006. I think the KWJ/April partnership was a strange one from the beginning. I think they were friends and developed a real like for each other but I think they just stopped having fun and it snowballed from there. I remember watching an interview with April. I don't remember her exact words, but she referred to the run to RIO as intense and very pressure filled. Not sure what she expected. This is all Kerri knew 12+ years...Going to the Olympics & winning Gold!!! For them to actually pull it together in that Bronze medal match & come away with that medal for us has to rank as one of THE best highlights of both their careers. Many will say that April won in this situation with KWs injury. Let's remember that Kerri wouldn't have been in those qualifiers if she had been with April. There was no winner here. A big loss for the πΊπΈ not having our best team together. People say that Kerri was certain that she would land Hughes that she walked away from April & left April high & dry. According to many sources that is not at all the case. These two women just were smart enough to walk away from each other before it actually affected them on court. There will be more πΊπΈ women's FIVB wins in 2018. Right off the bat, you are taking the best team in the world out of the equation with Larissa & Talita taking the year off. However, If Laura & Kira can stay healthy, which is a big IF that team may have lots more Gold Medals in them. Not to mention the loaded Brazilian squad & Germany π©πͺ team. I agree with most of this, but it wasn't the qualifier that got Kerri injured. She hurt it several days later. Her shoulder is fundamentally damaged now. One of the benefits of her not playing with April is she doesn't have to hit much. If she does come back I imagine teams will try to serve her a lot and she will need to take more swings than ever before. Hard to see that working out from a health perspective. I think a US team may win next year, but agree that the tour may get tougher. Larissa may retire, but LL/Kira had 2-3 healthy tourneys and them being back is trouble for everyone. Plus Duda and MHP are both a year older and better.

I heard Nick is retiring, and so Phil wanted to try his had at defense leading into 2018. He figures since Everando can do it, maybe he can partner with Ryan....

I can see this, Nick's been playing forever, along with Phil, another essentially three years, a lot to commit. Could see Nick coaching beach like his wife, make great money too.

The exact article, I forgot where I read it from.

Phil/Nick Seem to be the only known team.
The IFs: IF Hyden reitires from FIVB IF Sean is Healthy IF Tri is healthy IF Theo can stay on the right side There is an IF for Casey too, just not sure what it is.
The US is short on right side players, no matter if big or small.
Which Sean and Reid playing right side (and often forgotten Allen), that may put them in the drivers seat going forward. Ryan and Theo both prefer left along with Slick (who is younger than Ryan).
Taylor and Zaun seem to be left sides, which is why Jake and Ed worked out well. Who are the bigs on the left?? Maddison McK? and Brunsting??

To repeat, it all starts with Zaun, he's #1 pick of avail defenders.

Zaun is a good young talent but some of you guys are really rating him high. He is going to be a questionable FIVB player unless he changes the way that he plays significantly.
