My gut says the same thing, I'm hoping for 12-14. 12-14 is almost double from this year's 8 events! You guys are thinking from 8 tournies to 12-14 next year? Wow....That would be amazing but doesn't seem likely. I am trying to get on Donald Suns good side. I know I bashed him some...I think I'm still p**** off with the whole Kerri situation , but I will get over it...I'm sure he is trying to make the AVP great again. Hope he can do it....

I'll be happy with +1 tourneys next year at 9. Sun said he was adding 1 tournament every year for the next few years. IMO that would create sustained growth and now diminish the tournaments they already have.

Tri is taller than Pedro. Pedro is a better blocker than Tri though. Tri is also taller than the Latvians. But all those guys are better at most elements of the game than Tri. You can definitely have success as an undersized blocker but you have to have an incredible side out game, great transition setting, strong serving helps, in other words a lot of different ways to be a plus to your team. Ryan is a lousy technical blocker, but he is a plus for his team at the net. Not nearly as much as he should be, but a plus. Those 7-18 (counting arms) extra inches are a huge advantage. Tri can be a solid mid-level FIVB player as a blocker - which he has shown, but when you talk about the level guys like Pedro are at, the question becomes, what does Tri do better than them and what can he do better? To me he has more potential to be a top guy as a defender

Lot can be blamed on Donald, but hard to pin the Kerri thing on him. I think 9 is probably more realistic but this seems like such a great opportunity with the FIVB in a lull and decent success this year to build on.

I know for fact, the 10 was a number in range for 2017. We'll see how ambitious they are this coming year.

It felt like they were getting more sponsors this year but who knows how much $$ was coming in. It's been 7 years since the AVP had a title sponsor (Nivea) - and I think they'll need another one to get over 10 events a year. From my perspective, in the two tournies I went to this year (Hermosa and Manhattan), they've taken the event to a level where you would think a title sponsor would be interested. Hopefully they will find the right one.

Hopefully they will find the right one. It's really hard to believe they couldn't find any title sponsor this year. And as far as I can tell, Manhattan was the only event that even had a presenting sponsor (Acer). There doesn't seem to be much downside to letting one of their existing sponsors throw in a few extra bucks to be a title sponsor. Are they holding out for some minimum deal that nobody would agree to? There's not much cost to the AVP other than perhaps extra signage. Would the SmartyPants AVP Tour sound too cheesy or something? I don't think it's just a coincidence that the rapid success of Crocs footwear coincided with their run as AVP title sponsor. Seems like some other burgeoning lifestyle startup company would see a huge opportunity.

As none of the surf companies really has anything invested in volleyball, only Rox exists as a clothing option but they are waaay too small to be fronting anything. Shame Hurley, Billabong, etc, aren't interested in the least.

Isn't the elephant in the room, sponsors have to make money or get "value" for investment. Many events I attended multiple times had a big loss of vendors and sponsors year to year. Similar experience at Long Beach FIVB events. Stadium court at Chicago was , to my eye, 25 to 30% the size of North beach venue years ago. (Keep in mind admission is free.) Over the years very few vendor/sponsors return. My recollection of major sponsorship was that they wanted tv coverage of events guaranteed. I believe Leonard had to pay NBC to show events! If food vendors et al can't make money, that revenue stream goes away. Food trucks at Frisco may be the future? If die hard fans won't pay to watch our sport, or would rather play than attend, what does that say to tv or major sponsors. As fast as volleyball has grown in the USA in 20 plus years, it amazes me how many players have never attended an AVP event. From a financial standpoint the tour is a time consuming hobby, with minimum wage payback, if your lucky. Sad indeed. On the bright side, if Donald Sun can hold it all together, and continue to grow it, we could approach Olympic levels of excitement when the tour comes to a town near you. Only then, will beach volleyball be a well paid profession. Go to events, watch livestream, buy from event vendors. Support sponsors products. Show up for counting in the mega data being mined! Just my thoughts.

Just my thoughts. Agree, but for that to happen, a lot of people will have to to actually care for beach volleyball as a sport, not simply as an weekend event. Yet as you mentioned, if one of the only reasons casual fans attend a game is because its free, that's not going to do a lot to entice sponsors.

What time frame are you talking about? I dont remember Tri and John ever going on a really great run. They had a series of pretty good finishes in 2016, but I remember watching the Spaniards adjust to them and more or less take Tri's blocking completely out of the game. Do remember Tri serving phenomenally.
