Kansas City much more sensible than SLC, especially on this weekend.

While I get this tournament is loaded with great teams and players...it couldnt possibly be in a worse place and at a worse time than right now. It's SLC in the middle of ski season. The flights and hotels are ridiculous at this time of year. It's gotta be costing close to 12K to send a team to this tournament and your not even playing for a bid. If there was a bid on the line, a tournament of this quality wouldn't happen because you could attend an "easier" qualifier. Chasing a bid shouldn't be more important than seeing the best competition and getting the best recruiting exposure but it is.

^^^ This tournament may be the best recruiting exposure all season.
Any idea if some of the matches will be streamed?

Each of the last two years our coach has said he would rather go to another qualifier. Both years our director said that is not what this tourney is for, and you are going. Good for your club director.

Refer to links early in this thread. Scanned the thread and missed that the first time. Thanks. Looking forward to seeing some of these teams play from the comfort of home.

Love the tournament for the quality of competition and the recruiting opportunities for our club's younger teams. For our 18's, if we didn't get a bid in the two qualifiers we attend during the season, then probably shouldn't be playing GJNC in "Open"...or if we should, the committee would give our 18's an AT LARGE as wins at TC can still be wins against the field. Our 2018 class has earned a bid every year since 12's when attending 1-2 qualifiers per year. Some parents have wanted to go to another qualifier instead of TC NIT just to make sure, but there is no replacing the level of matches the teams gets to experience. This is the third year our club has attended and of the two teams I have been involved with, there is a total of one match in my memory where we didn't have to bring everything. Actually out of the three travel tournaments for our 18's this season (two qualifiers and this one), TC-NIT surprisingly ended up being the cheapest total cost per player. Anyway, I may or many not like it after this weekend with an injury to one player and another at a wedding with an original team of 10...but love the adversity! Gets you ready for College!

My daughter is going and it is EXPENSIVE. Clearly a waste of money for the parents. Clubs don't care how much it costs the parents. It's an insane amount of money for what will amount to roughly 7-9 matches in 3 days. All qualifier/travel tourneys are 9-10 matches over 3 days. This year will be my third trip to triple crown with 2 daughters playing and in seven years of club ball I have never been to a better run or better attended travel tournament, from both a competition and recruiting standpoint. I have also never seen more head coaches watching matches....I think the very first match I watched when my daughter was 16 I was sitting between Russ Rose and John Dunning 😳 I also love getting to play the jva teams we don’t see at gjnc. Worth it in many respects imho

Flights are a little spendy but over all experience makes it worthwhile.

Worth it in many respects imho Not worth it after your kid is already committed and traveling from the east. Far from worth it. Simple: don’t go. No one is required to attend. You could certainly make other arrangements. And if most of your team is in the same situation, I would imagine they would support that choice.

Not worth it after your kid is already committed and traveling from the east. Far from worth it. I understand your sentiment, but with the 18s being separated out now, this is the very best chance for younger girls to watch high level 18 competition and really the only chance for the 18s to play in front of a rockin house with fans cheering and coaches watching. Do coaches really care that much about their 18’s recruits in a random tournament? Meh.... I’d bet they’d be more concerned they’d be injured than whether or not their club team wins at triple crown. I think the 18’s play is an after thought for college coaches, a perk. They are there for the uncommitted 14’s, 15’s, and 16’s. If the triple crown had those three age groups and 17’s and 18’s in a different city, I bet that you wouldn’t see too many coaches at the 17’s and 18’s

I don’t really care who does and does not come but I do see a number of clubs whose 18 team is not competing but they are bringing younger teams.

I guess they are smoking the good stuff over the counter these days up in husky land? No, college coaches wouldn't travel like this for 17s and 18s. That was the point. That's what makes it special, because they ARE all there. Coaches don't care? Because of the split championship, the NIT is a huge differentiator for the (unfortunately mythical) national championship. Basically, any coach who thinks it's meh shouldn't be coaching 18s, and any player who thinks it's meh should be enrolled for spring quarter and not playing 18s. I was talking exclusively about the college coaches in attendance re watching 18’s, which is what I was responding to. I’m sure the club coaches for these teams care a great deal about this tournament. I think most of the college coaches there are for younger division recruiting. I don’t think they care about who does and doesn’t win 18’s. I think they mostly care that their recruits who will be showing up on campus in 5 months won’t get injured.
