volleymob.com/67-class-of-2022-middle-blocker-carter-booth-commits-to-minnesota/This has gotta be the most intriguing prospect we've had in the U.S. in years. There's lots to say about a player this size, or a player committing this early...but the one thing that keeps getting stuck in my head...can you imagine being a middle school coach and showing up to a match where you have to play against a 6'7" girl? "This is not what I signed up for"

Unless she is fast, I wish the coaches would convert her to a RS sooner than later.

Wait...you can play varsity as a 7th grader? So a 6 year varsity letterman...cool.

Apparently she has no interest in playing for a National Championship.

Wait...you can play varsity as a 7th grader? So a 6 year varsity letterman...cool. When I helped my high school softball team, we played against a team whose starting pitcher was a 6th grader. There was a rule that certain schools (like K-12 or combined middle/high school) that allowed younger grade athletes to play. She ended up earning 7 varsity letters.

Apparently she has no interest in playing for a National Championship. ?? Minnesota has been in the final four 2 of the last 3 years, and they are stacked in recruiting for the next several. She will have plenty of chances to play for a national championship. It was huge for them to lock up Shaffmaster as early as they did. Get an elite level setter and top hitters will follow quickly.

Wait...you can play varsity as a 7th grader? So a 6 year varsity letterman...cool. Some states allow it. In Minnesota, 7th and 8th graders can play on high school teams SO LONG AS they are on varsity teams. They cannot play junior varsity in high school, for example, until 9th grade. Many districts have stricter rules and policies, for example, that they must not displace a high school-aged athlete. That usually results in the rule being used more frequently in individual sports (track, swimming, cross country) than team sports.
