TONS of players going to Germany and France. More in Turkey and Italy than I had originally accounted for.
Can be wrong but i think Freeman and Nwanebu in Turkey play in the 2nd division. In Italy maybe a third of the listed play in the 2nd division or lower. In Germany and France i think (almost) half of the listed players are active in 2nd division (or lower) clubs.

Let me ask you this. Since they signed with the 2nd Division...does that hurt their chances for moving up as they improve season to season? Or is it more of a career suicide type of thing to not try to get signed by the best league/team possible? I am legitimately curious. I really have not followed club volleyball until this year.

Hard to say. When i'm reading about such transfers, i often think: "She could easily play in a top division team in another country." But that probably ignores the realities of the transfer market and the jungle of different rules regarding foreigner limitations. I'm not an agent. Would be very interesting to hear an agent's or player's opinion. The second division in Turkey and Italy might still be on a slightly higher level than a top division in an average non-traditional volleyball country (simply because of the large pool of talented local players). Maybe here it's the hope to be spotted and signed by a top division club in the same country for the next season or to help the club gain the promotion to the top division with good results of course (move up). Or it's a chance to get more court time for those players who were mostly subs in the top division (to prepare the "move down" to another country which better suits their level). The same might apply for Germany and France on a lower level. Their second divisions probably can be compared with the top divisions in weaker volleyball leagues (like Sweden, Denmark, Austria,...). Some countries might simply be more popular destinations also for non-volleyball reasons (language, culture, safety, way of life,...)? I assume a majority of the listed players continue to play after college mostly for the love of the game and the competition (testing their own limits as a player) and to have a taste of the overseas "pro" life (as long as it's possible) without big aspirations to make the NT roster.

For a lot of Americans in their first couple seasons post-college I think it's probably most important to get signed to a club where they'll be starting. We've seen some players start in smaller leagues like PR and then move on to Italy, Turkey, or Russia (as well as the reverse). The common thread that I see is a player has got to have court time and then needs to prove themselves in those moments. Seems like it matters less about which level they start at just out of college. I'd love to hear from someone with more firsthand experience tho....

Drews and Lee's stats from today's loss to Vakif. Not too encouraging for the USNT. tvf-web.dataproject.com/MatchStatistics.aspx?mID=4815&ID=31&CID=85&PID=69&type=LegListKrob's recent sold performance in attack should bring in question whether Karch should bring her back into the OH fold for the USNT. This is probably her biggest growth season in that area of her game. Whether that is attributable to Guidetti's offense or playing along side of Zhu it certainly calls for reexamination on the libero position.

Poulter just led #12, Chieri, 1-17, to a 26-24 3rd set win over #6 Pomi, 11-7. Chieri now trails 1-2. Still beating the drums to be heard in the USNT setter competition coming this summer. How did the match turn out?!

Drews and Lee's stats from today's loss to Vakif. Not too encouraging for the USNT. What the hell are you talking about Lee 5 kills 33% - Zhu 18 kills 72% Drews 7 kills 28% - Sloetjes 11 kills 52% This is what his talking about... In the OG they will be playing against Zhu and Sloetjes as well...so if they can`t play against them here they certainly can`t at the OG...unless you have a magic potion.

^ All the evidence we need that you’re actually a middle schooler. Comparing Lee to the world’s best player... I just can’t.

Anyone have a link to the Conegliano/Scandicci match? Can't find one anywhere!

I cheated and looked on CEV’s website. I’m kinda bummed by the outcome. Lowe had her chance and she blew it. No magical finish for Imoco. I don’t get it. Their roster is packed with talent. They should be dominating. Not getting edged in 5 sets. I guess that is the beauty of sport. You’ve gotta show up when it counts.
I don’t think they can qualify for the quarters now. They are in 5th out of the second place teams. Gonna need some help from the lower teams in the other pools and they need a sweep next week. I’m happy for Scandicci and Novara but my heart hurts a little bit for Conegliano.

Imocos roster is packed with talent, but who is supposed to be the go-to player, Fabris, Hill, Sylla, Lowe?? This result will make Imoco go all out for Egonu next season, but the question is, will she still want to go there.
