Passing = A- Digging = B+ Hustle = A Court Awareness = A Hitting = C- (D+) If Wagoner can hit, there's no way Ah Mow will keep her off the court. It's not just about power as I think Wagoner demonstrated she can hit with some heat. It's about court vision, shot placement, shot selection, and that extra oomph in her shots that players like Brooke Van Sickle, Jolie Rasmussen, Hanna Hellvig, and McKenna Ross seem to have. I mean, Wagoner's shots have been dug time and time again by opponents really easily. Right now, current Hawaii starting hitters are waaay above Wagoner. Even McKenna Ross. I was not very high on Ross but in the second half of the season, she came through and hit with authority and confidence, something missing in Wagoner's game. Ross also made All Big West (Honorable Mention), no small feat given she's only 5'10. There's talk of moving Tiffany Westerberg and Braelyn Akana to the outside, but I'll believe it when I see it. I question the ball control abilities of Westerberg and Akana. No way they're better than Wagoner. But I can see Westerberg and Akana being better hitters. Not sure as they haven't had a lot of reps there during actual matches. But Wagoner is a freshman. She has a huge ceiling. Ah Mow will reward players who will help the team win. I was somewhat opposed to Wagoner getting benched midway through the season but it wasn't a strong opposition as I really wanted someone more terminal at the pins. Seems like Wagoner tips more over the net that hitting over the net.... Is it the setter or is it her judgement? The other hitters had the same setter(s) and they've done fine. It kind of irked me sometimes every time she tipped instead of going for a good honest hit. My #1 motto is: every ball over the net must apply significant pressure on the opponents.

Brutus Buckeye, ya know, the proof is in the videos. Almost every Wahine match is on youtube. The stats also don't lie.

Well that's not a very good grade. Her serves, power of hitting and placement of balls. Tipping too many balls over net.

Well that's not a very good grade. Yeah, don't agree with that grade either. She was stellar in every area except hitting percentage.

Riley would occasionally surprise by really ripping into one, but the downside was that it was a surprise. But it at least shows she has the ability to hit hard, and hope she continues to develop next year. Robyn loves smart players who can go six.

I am not at all concerned when it comes to Riley Wagoner. I firmly believe she will be an outstanding player by the time her Wahine playing career is over. Some players take a little longer to adjust to D1 volleyball then other players do. Under the tutelage of Robyn and staff, Riley Wagoner will become an outstanding Wahine player. Just need to give her time to do so.

I'm looking forward to seeing how she develops in her 4 years. I've heard the growth from freshman-to-sophomore year is the most profound for volleyball players. I don't know if that's true but I can think of a few examples where players blew their chances during the sophomore year.
Also, the current McKenna Ross (senior year) is nowhere like the old McKenna Ross (freshman-junior years). Right now, Ross is playing really well. Incredibly.

Wolfgang, do not forget how much Skylar Williams has improved, under the tutelage of Robyn and staff, from her Freshman year, till now. Williams, could become an All-American candidate by the end of her Senior year. Something no one would have thought possible watching her during her Freshman year.

Wagoner doesn't have a particularly fast armswing, but she definitely generates enough power. Her issues are shot selection, not allowing herself to be intimidated by the block, learning to tool the block and also to hit high hands, and becoming a bit more explosive on her take-off (which can compensate some for the armswing speed).

Middles are different from OHs. I mean, you can take the most awkward and technically unsound player like Natasha Burns and still get her to be All Big West 1st team. But you can't get away with that for the pin hitters who take a lot of junk balls and have other responsibilities, e.g., passing, digging, blocking.

Wagoner right now has upperclassmen in front of her. She just needs to bide her time, learn and grow, as a volleyball player. So that when it is her time, she can make an impact on the Wahine volleyball team that Robyn recruited Wagoner to be.

Riley is out of the current rotation but she can always be inserted in. She's going to be a big contributor to the program in the future. We are very happy to have her.
