there’s a good possibility that hawaii may have 2 more scholarships available. can ah mow promise partial scholarships, as in 2 years instead of 4 OR scholarships on a year to year basis especially for local players who aren’t contributing? sounds mean but just a question.

i also bet we lost allie andrews to baylor. if she hasn’t committed to hawaii after senior night then she wasn’t completely sold. Nah...not necessarily. She is from the class of 2021 so she will have time. Some choose to commit early like Mia Johnson but other might wait because it’s a hard decision. Maybe she likes both schools and is torn. We battled Texas for Kiraly so we can battle Baylor too.

Is RAM going to bring in a 21 setter? Or is there already a commit?

Yes a lot of good teams offer partials all the time, especially for DS's/Liberos.

Yes a lot of good teams offer partials all the time, especially for DS's/Liberos. It's common for players to receive years 2&4 or 1&4 on a partial. This is done to prevent transferring but if the player outperforms those on scholarship at her position you can end up with a situation where you have a starter feeling dissatisfied and that has the potential to cause problems.

Yeah I've heard of a handful of cases where that happens. (And Hawaii has gotten a couple of transfers that way) There's also cases where someone was promised a 2 in 4, got the 2 years of scholarships right away and then (even though they were playing and a contributor), decided to go and get a scholarship for the other 2 years anyway.

Anyone know anything about the junior OH on Waianae, Heipua Tautua'a? Recruiting wise? Watching the Aiea game, she seems very explosive. I know Waianae doesn't get much exposure but she looks like a heavy hitter and I saw she plays for Kevin's team ? (SAS). she committed to Saint Mary’s College. I’ve seen some videos on her only but she seemed like a good hitter, I wonder if Hawaii was even in her radar. Santa Clara University is getting a lot of homegrown talent heading there way now as well because of Erin

I'm betting $20 that the starting setter for the 2020 Hawaii team for the first match of the season will NOT be Kate Lang but a transfer setter. I'd bet more but that's all I have in my wallet right now. Kinda reminds me of Mafua/Brandt situation. Mafua was the freshman setter coming in and Brandt was the sophomore transfer. Although in the year, Mafua started the first match and then was replaced by Brandt after Hawaii lost the first two sets. Mafua eventually took the starting job again.

Speaking of Santa Clara, former Hawaii recruit Liliana Light is still listed on the roster. Never seen her play. Don't know how good she is. She was supposed to come in during the 2018 season, but after Dave Shoji retired and Ah Mow was hired, Light rescinded her commitment. The story on VT was that Light was not Ah Mow's recruit and so, both parties decided to go separate ways, so to speak. As for what really happened, I have no idea.

Top Priorities for 2020:
1. Setter 2. Libero
(MUCH farther down)
3. The best terminal outside hitter possible
That is all. lol.

Wonder what let her keep Castaneda. In any case, no need spend time talking about players that never materialized.

She looked good on paper at least

Whoops yes, that's what I meant. (Secretly hoping Braelyn Akana's sister is planning to do this after two years)
