I don't know if I have the time to start a thread this week (but ilikecorn loves Purdue, so I think we're in good hands) but here's the lowdown for those who didn't see the selection show:

How does this team match up with Baylor? I've watched every game with Purdue, and seen Baylor in person and have watched most of their games that were broadcast on TV. At times Baylor looks unstoppable but they aren't without weaknesses. Pressley is one of the most impressive hitters I've seen in a LONG TIME. She is incredible and is going to get her kills. She singlehandedly was the only one delivering kills against Texas. They keyed in on her blocking-wise and she still got kills. Shondell needs to align Cleveland up with her as much as possible. I have no doubt that they are already planning to key on her in blocking schematics to at least slow her down. Baylor's setter, Lockin, is tall but her location is not the best. Pressley can adjust because she's so athletic but getting Lockin off balance is going to be critical. Like with everything, is going to be key - make Lockin work so she has trouble with her location and get Pressley off as much as possible. Purdue is one of the best serving teams I've seen and I've seen Baylor struggle in this regard. Another item to note was their 6 foot 5 opposite Van Der Mark - I was surprised at how ineffective she was against Texas but seemed to do well the first couple of rounds in the Tourney. Obviously a huge difference between Sacred Heart and Texas, but she will be coming in with confidence and that will be interesting to see. Middles McGhee and Stafford are good - but are only as good as their sets and luckily that's not a strength of Lockins. She doesn't force middles (no real need to with Pressley on the floor) and her location is suspect. Stafford is an All American middle and McGhee is a freshman Top 10 recruit. Mohler and Cuttino/Johnson match up well with them - luckily, Bush has a good connection with our middles. I think Baylor will be a tough test for Purdue, but the varied offense Purdue has with back court options as well, it will be interesting.

Purdue will have their hands full with Baylor and vice versa hopefully. It seems Purdue has the potential to turn it up and just believe in themselves. They will need a complete team effort.

At the very least, I'd assume Purdue has seen a few teams like Baylor throughout the year. Not that wins over Nebraska and Kentucky guarantee a win here, but it may be one of the matches I'm looking forward to most. Good luck to your Boilermakers!

(Still salty about the performance earlier.) I wish he spent this constant energy crying/making excuses about hosting towards forming a consistently competitive team instead. Purdue can't host once they reach the Final Four, good teams can acknowledge a hostile crowd but still come to perform – just ask Louisville. Purdue has – and HAD – the talent to compete at much higher levels but never quite gets there. Yes I know, he pulled Purdue out of the dumpster. He's a great recruiter, great at developing individual talent (especially on the right), but his teams given the talent have continued to disappoint. *I do believe the 2010 team would have made the Final Four with Hart though.Baylor is a good team, but Purdue did not perform how we know they can and this happens year in, year out. Being a Purdue (and Illini) fan can be draining across most sports.
I'll be back next season like I never said this – and if Dave finally gets it together, don't quote this so I can come back and delete this and be a fake stan. Boiler Up!
