Interesting that the Head Official at that tournament reprimanded that official for that call and they were not given another match. Back to my main point, there is no way a match (especially a close match) should end on an 8 second call unless it was well over 8 seconds. Nobody (neither the players, coaches) feels good about winning or losing a match that way. That is poor officiating. Bad move on the HO’s part, unless it was to just remove them from the pathway of parental wrath. In a basketball game, on the inbounds pass you get 5 seconds. If they go past the allotted time (and forget to call timeout to avoid the whistle), ITS A TURNOVER. (& fans are already screaming at 5 seconds that it’s 5 seconds.) They’d ride the ref out on a rail for letting it go to 8-9 seconds. There are time limit rules in effect for a reason. I cannot believe how long this has carried on regarding a perfectly good regulation call. Thinking more about your basketball scenario, a much closer analogy would be a player on the line with .1 seconds left and 1 shot which will win the game. Now, we all know that the player taking a free throw has 5 seconds to take the free throw but, do you actually believe that any official should or would make this call if they took 5.5 seconds, especially when no official in either game, utilizes a stopwatch to time such a situation?

Watching the officials miss the pass interference call against the Rams reminded me of the line call at Florida a few years ago. What others are there? My favorite part about this video is not only did the ref obviously miss the setter setting himself, but it was Rotation 1 and the setter was backrow!!

Don't notice where I said it should "NEVER" be called....it simply should NEVER be called in that situation. It was perhaps 8 seconds, though it could have been 7 or 9, I was not counting. It was simply too close to call in that situation, and was simply the "worst official call" I have seen in my 35 years in the game as a coach and official. I think you deserve a little sugar on this. Officials are allowed to use judgement and all ‘correct’ calls are not created equal.

I am absolutely amazed that this Message Board seems to be dominated by those who believe that "rules are rules" and judgement should never be considered. I assume all of these people have never gone over the speed limit in their life, nor broken any other "rule"...or actually had the authorities utilize some judgement when dealing with them when they had broken any such rule!

I wasn’t aware driving is a game. I think it’s very entitled to lose a point breaking a rule and then scream “THAT’S NOT FAIR” about it. If you’re any adult near that situation I don’t know how you do anything but shrug and say “Well unfortunately that is the rule... it doesn’t get enforced all the time but we can’t complain when it does. Hard lesson, let’s try to move on together.”

I just can't imagine a referee blowing 8 seconds in that situation unless it was closer to 20.

Totally blown call and an embarrassment for the NFL. It was so bad in fact you have to wonder if the fix was in. Does anyone know what this about? I’ve seen this picture s couple times and have no idea the context of it.

This seems to be a pretty blatant worst no-call of all time! Can you believe they didn't call this?

1:03.17 Minnesota vs Oregon , no double contact called on samedy. Just rewatched the match and came to this thread right after that play. And Oregon was up 35-34 and should’ve been given the set.
